Looking to get a spare string for my shrew classic hunter and was wondering with all the material choices what u guys recommend and if any are unsafe for the bow? Thanks !
Your best bet would be to contact some of the string makers who are sponsers here, they'll know what materials will be best for you.
If you want the original thing, the guy who made / makes the strings is a guy who also works part-time at shop called Northwoods Wilderness Outfitters in Iron Mountain, MI. They do have a website. His Flemish string formulation is proprietary.
My Shrew had a 6 strand 450+ string on it. That means it will work with any fast flight string.
I bought the bow used, but it was the original string that came with the bow new.
my shrew was new to me as well and has a "skinny string" as well but for some reason thought i rememebered hearing the bows would not take fast flight...but wanted to try one if it would not hurt the bow...
If you want the same string that came on it, contact Ron and find out. Depending on how odl the string is, it could have been the current string maker or a different one. If you bought the bow used, it may have been someone else who made it. Making a 6-8 strand 450+ string isn't rocket science.
If your bow is FF compatible, any of the string materials available will be safe as long as the string is made properly. 450+ has the least stretch/creep of any material on the market, so it should be fine for anything.
My personal preferances are 8125G, 8190, and Dynaflight '97.
Chad
Is there a way to tell if the bow is FF compatable or would the only way for sure be to call Ron and ask directly?
Email or PM Ron La Clair I think he would know best.
Just check the date, (serial number) on your bow and post it on here.
Tom its a classic hunter carbon serial number g310-0509. Thanks again...guessing 0509 is month/year?
You're good to go. Since Chad at Champion Custom Bowstrings was nice enough to respond, you may want him to build you a string. SBD are great also.
You're serial number;
g, for Gregg
310, it is the 310th shrew that Gregg has built.
0509 is the month and year.
I like skinny on my shrews.
Awesome thanks for the help !!!!
