So how many of you guys use calls during the late season? And what sounds are you calling? Do the deer respond?
I was able to use doe bleats to pull in two yearlings, one of which I was able to shoot. I did try some blind grunts/bleats and didn't seem to get a response. I never had the opportunity to try to call any bucks though. I would think they could still be coaxed in if they were solo!
I don't usually call during late season. I will grunt at them to make them pause for a shot, but other than that, I am pretty quiet.
Yep, doe bleats,...I use "contact" bleats.....end of the I've killed bucks using an estrus bleat. I've used them both very effectively over the years.
I was on the edge about trying it and I'm glad you guys had some success with it. I think I will give it a shot. Thanks
I think a lot depends on how much calling they have heard during earlier hunting seasons. I think they get call shy just like water fowl amd turkey. I think you can try all the calls especially of you hit the second rut in a low pressure hunting area. You can also try fawn distress calls. We use that for coyotes this time of year amd does come to it, but they will be on high alert.
The best call this time of the year is the sound of a feeder. :biglaugh:
