I shoot primarily longbows, but just purchased a Wes Wallace Mentor on TradGang. I'm confused about brace height. Wes Wallace recommends 7 1/2" on his website.
Now I always thought that brace height is measured from string to deepest part of the grip, but I read that some bowyers measure from string to edge of arrow shelf. It doesn't make that much difference on my longbows, but on the Mentor, the deepest part of the grip is 3/4" further in than the arrow shelf.
Help please. How do I measure brace height on a Wes Wallace Mentor?
I'm quite sure it's as you think. The string to the deepest part of the grip.
Thanks, and one more question. I have a longer draw -- 30 1/2 (on a longbow, so maybe even a little bit longer on a recurve). With a longer draw, if I adjust from bowyer's recommended brace height, should I increase or decrease brace height?
Brace height shouldn't be dependent on draw length. It only affects how long of a power stroke you are getting and how quiet the bow is. Try his recommendation and adjust from there. Higher brace height usually quiets a bow down at a cost of a tiny fps loss, too small to worry about. It can also affect arrow spine.
That really helps. Thank you.
