I had to post this. I am so happy I can't stand it. I started hunting with traditional equipment this season. I started out hunting exclusively with my stickbow. Early on I missed a doe at 12 yds. I shot right over her.I was tore up didn't pick a spot, basically done everything wrong. Doe fever? I didn't give up kept hunting and had several more close encounters with deer in range but angle wrong or something in the way. As the rut approached I got my wheel bow back out. Killed a doe and then killed my buck. Got my stickbow back out in the late season and went hunting at Ft Knox. Had a pretty nice buck come in. Probably getting close to PY. He presented me a shot at 8 yds.I was calm felt l picked a spot and yet I shot right over his back. He wheeled around and did a half circle in front of me at what I thought was around 20 yds, more like 25. I shot right under him. I wanted to cry as he ran off. So fast forward to today. Got out in the woods this morning. Hunted till about 1130 and got up and went walking around shooting stumps. Came up on some good sign where they had been feeding on some red oak acorns. Decided I better hunt this tonight. Went home got my climber and was set up at 3. Around 4 3 deer come in. 2 button bucks and mom. They come in behind me and the shot was on my bad side. I had to put my drawing hand over my harness strap to even be able to draw. The fawns went by and the doe followed. I drew and tried to settle on her but to much stuff in the way. Was getting ready to let down and she took 3 quick steps and stopped at 21 yds. I settled in picked my spot the whole time saying to myself, focus, focus. This goes back to some pointers Rick ****** gave me in some conversations we had through email. Heck of a nice guy. Anyway I thought I was on so I let her loose. Arrow hit back a little but exited perfect. She trotted 20 yds and stopped then walked off. Lost sight of her. Waited a long hour got down found my arrow, it looked good. Followed the trail to her. She went 40 yds. This has to be one of my most memorable hunts. I am a seasoned bowhunter, been doing it my whole life but this was as good as my best py buck with a wheel bow. I'm afraid I'm hooked for life. Sorry this post is so long but I wanted to share what I've been through. (http://i45.tinypic.com/2lnjvxj.jpg)

That's awesome. Hoping to get my first trad kill this month. Had a very nervous sow jump the string on me in October for my first shot at an animal with trad gear. Been hunting with my rifle since start of November. Archery goes to Jan 31 in Louisiana, so Maybe I'll get lucky. Thanks for posting the story and pic.
Missing makes success that much sweeter! Congrats on sticking it out.
Great story you inspire me.
Good for you.
Thanks a lot guys. I apreciate all the posts. One of the truly great things about the traditional folks is the camradarie. Great bunch of people here. This forum has definitely helped me get going down the traditional path. Lots of good intel here. I really look forward to this years upcoming shoots and meeting some great people.
From a fellow Kentuckian ... congratulations brother ! Oh Yeah... "GO BIG BLUE" !
Awesome.
Great story and congrats. The feeling of shooting at or seeing a doe is what makes it worth every penny. I was lucky enough this year to harvest my first buck with trad gear and it was by far my proudest or one of my proudest hunting moments. Oh by the way I also kept my wheelie bow the first year I hunted with trad gear and it was too easy to bring it out when I got frustrated. So I sold it and will never go back. Congrats again.
