Title: Need help IDing a bow please
Post by: Bud B. on December 31, 2012, 11:06:00 PM
No response in the Bowyer's Forum so here goes...

 http://s45.beta.photobucket.com/user/Equismith/library/Take%20down%20Recurve

I bought this bow with another bow from an online auction. It is a quality bow but has no maker's name on it. It is 56#@28 and 62". I would put it in the class with Stalker bows for quality, but this one has some age on it. It shoot nicely and is quiet. The riser is nice and has some heft. It's definitely heavier than my Hill style bows.

Any help with wood identification would be nice too.

Please let me know if the link doesn't work.

Thanks.

Bud

Link works.  It appears to be a recurve.  That's I got.  Just a funny way to bring it back to the top of the page.

On a side note, I will be gathering more details about the hunt to share with you in the next week or two.  Haven't responded because I want to fill you in as much as possible first.  Enjoy the new year.  May it bring you deer stacked like cord wood.

I'd say Ash veneers and Bubinga riser, looks like a quality bow for sure.

Red Elm veneer & maybe Bubinga riser.  It looks like one of my old Bingham Project bows from 25 years ago.

I would say a Dale Stahls, I got one that I bought off of this site. Mine looks just like yours but right handed. Dale is the only one I've seen with curved limb pockets. My bow has his name on it and on the side of the limbs. Very good shooting bows, wish I could get another.

Yep. I thought this was a nice feature on this bow. It definitely looks like one someone with experience made it.

Is he still an active bowyer?

Cascade does curved limb pads on their bows.
That one definitely looks like one of Dale's older bows.

Well now I know of -2 bowlers that have curved pads. I have not talked to Dale in a long time but I think he is still making bows.  Dwayne Martin sold me my first one and he may have a contact # for Dale.  No web page, may have email .  Good luck with your new toy.

I was thinking Chekmate as well, but looks like the vote is leaning to Stahl.
