I've been wondering about this topic myself for some time. Since I had the day off from work due to the holiday I decided to go check out a couple pieces of public and do some late season scouting. I loaded up my cold weather gear and my stick bow.
It's been a good year of harvests with an antelope in WY, a nice buck and doe in IA (none with the stick bow, though). Freezer is full so I was just out dinking around while my wife was at work.
As I was stalking my way in on a mature doe and button buck I was thinking:
1) switch to trad bow full-time. To do this I need to shoot more than I currently do
2) talk to fellow hunters more. I'm always pretty secret about my spots, but it's good to hear from other hunters what they are seeing. I talked to a nice fellow hunter on my way out from this piece...he told me that a nice buck was taken during bow season and another was spotted in the area....
3) get up a couple sets and build a natural ground blind for morning hunts...Since I hunt public it's hard to get up in a tree in the morning since I don't normally leave out a set. I found an area that I think is pretty hidden, so I'll leave up a set for morning hunts to increase the amount of time I'm out.
4) finalize arrow set up....I would like to get a good flying 600g set up from my hoyt buffalo.
What's everyone elses?

awesome, you will be glad you did ! i guess mine is to take it a little easier and smarter, i had a injury again in October that caused me to miss most of our bow season, 3time in about 8 years to do that.. and to get in better shape, so i can get back to huntin the local mtns and big woods again.....
Good thread, My resolution is to start preparing for spring gobbler season which includes: Practicing with my new to me 70's Bear super griz.so I can consistantly hit a 3 in. circle out to 20 yds.; Build ground blinds now in areas that I typ. hunt. ; Practice my turkey calling.Thats spacific, but generally, continue shooting my bows every chance I get because practice makes perfect- not that I'll ever attain perfect, but you need to shoot high to even come close to the mark. :archer2:
To Bowhunt more with my Son!....KYArcher
To put enormous effort into my two two sons (15 and 9) interest in trad archery.
Get in better shape. That will do more for my hunting than anything.

X2
I have some really great bows that I want to spend some time shooting. I shot a new Bob Morrison bow the other night and shot my best 10 shot score. Today I shot my new Striker bow and it shot fantastic also. Then there is that great shooting Jim Gainey bow and that very steady Black Widow, and that great little Shrew. My new years resolution is to spend more time with each of them.
:archer2: :archer2: :archer2:
Quit trading/ buying so many different bows
Buy more toys "BOWS" :bigsmyl:
Practice at 40 yards so 30 yards is a chip shot in preparation for a bucket-list adventure the 1st week of October.
Looks like "work" will take me back to South Africa again in early August but I'm not sure I'll hunt this time.
Unfortunately (?) I do have 2-3 more bows that I "need" to experience: Bob Lee Ultra, Rose Oak Ultra Delight Limited, & Pittsley Predator Metal riser. I should move a few more but I just can't bring my self to do it.
Too take some animals with some bows I own that I haven't yet.
:campfire:
To hunt with a 50 yr old bow (deer at least), 1963 Bear Kodiak. I have never hunted with a vintage bow before.
Get my old butt in shape and keep on with my year round traditional bowhunting. Gotta love hunting and living in the south. Something to hunt year round.
I need to stop trading and buying new bows and just stick to my "old reliable" Robertson Purist Longbow...it is hands down the best bow I have ever shot and I ALWAYS GO BACK TO IT !
I'm gonna try not to buy any more stuff related to archery and use what I have!
Spend less time at work, and more time in The Catskill Mountains!
* Thank Him every day for the gift of life and prove myself worthy of a place in Heaven. *
... mike ...
Spend more quality time with the Lord and my family.
Practice on a more consistant basis.
Spend more time teaching my sons about Archery and Woodsmanship.
Camp more with the family.
And finally...the big one...Get my wife interested in Trad Archery!!!!
go hunting more, and less work.
try some new things and old stand bys, carp, geese, grouse, bears, wt deer, mule deer, elk, moose, antelope, mt. goat, boar, etc........
all trad. all the time.

Isn't that like a pro QB saying "I'm going to try to throw less touchdowns"? That's just silly man. :biglaugh:
To hit more trad events, & be a more social archer :campfire: :jumper:
Hunt more ,find a trad bowhunter partner :) :campfire: :archer: :archer2:
To build my first Hill style bow.
Take an animal with primitive bow and arrow.
Recover quickly from this shoulder surgery so I can start shooting my RH bows.

Start twisting my own strings.
Sell about half my bows.
Try bowfishing.
Sell most of my bows, set up a range in my backyard,Introduce more people to traditional archery.
I am going trad bow only. Just sold my compound yesterday.
Do more stumpin!!!! Ive somehow managed to quit doing it as much. Oh and the same as last year and the year before...take a deer with a bow I've made.
Finally get out and start shootin again...been out for most of the year, now I have a bow on the way that should be shootable for me. Shoulder injuries suck!
Continue to try to spread trad fever.
Try and take a hog with one of my selfbows.....
Practice, Practice, Practice!
I need to be more consistant with my shots and stop second guessing before release.
I want to become REALLY good with my HHA longbow. I sold off my compound back in June and dedicated my shooting to the longbow. I have become pretty good. This next year I want to take it to a whole new level. Part two is to shoot a deer, any deer, with my longbow. I need to break the ice and get something with traditional gear.
I need to take the time and shoot more, I also would like to purchase a new long bow.
I will do my best to find a better piece of private land here in the NC Piedmont to hunt deer. Any of you NC fellows have any land you want to share with an old bow hunter -- just give me a shout.
Joe
Shoot more. I shoot almost every day at home but I didn't get out to shoot many 3D shoots last year and didn't hunt at all the last 2 years...that definitely has to change for this year
1. Shoot just one bow
2. Take my 3 boys to there first trad shoot, and buy them each a bow of there own.
3. Plan and make one big out of state hunt- elk in CO

Fletch up a few more huntin' arrows.
Try out some Muzzy Phantom broadheads I recently bought from the classifieds section.
Get my oldest son(15 yrs. old now) ready to start bow hunting next season.
Do more bowfishing!
I joined PBS, so hopefully find a like minded trad bowhunter. I am moving to Montana, so save up $ for good boots, binos and a nice pack frame. Extend my effective hunting range to 35 yards. Keep practicing with my turkey calls, and get some elk calls and learn them. Strengthen my relationship with God and my family
to go to my favorite trad archery shop and walk out WITHOUT a new bow in my hand...
sometimes i like to challenge myself with the seemingly impossible. it's good for the soul...
(for the record, i have no expectations whatsoever of succeeding.)
I want to try bow fishing, give up the training wheels completely, build a new huntable bow and bloody it. Trying to get back into shape so that I can fullfill 2014's resolution, ELK! Happy New Year, Gang!
To "pick a spot every time." Simple as that
Strengthen my relationship with God. That will make everything else work how it should!
Remember to put in for the Kentucky elk hunt draw this time! Last year was the first time since it started I never put in! My Tall Tines deserves to see Kentucky!
Kill a gobbler this spring using my recurve and no blind or decoys, in the big woods.
Kill a hog!
I think I want to actually meet some of the Tradgangers that I talk with on line.
I need to make more time for what I want to do and less putting it on the back burner because of work obligations.
I created a whole list of critters or places I realistically want to hunt. Time to start crossing some off.
ChuckC
I want to be all I can be for Jesus. I am going to make an effort to love people more and to not take offense. God bless you all and shoot straight to the mark. Steve
Make sure I hit "anchor" each time I draw my bow back.
There are quite a few ways to send an arrow down range but it takes discipline to do it correctly, that's my New Year's resolution.
To stop giving my bows away!
1. Learn to shoot more accurately past 40 yards.
2. Get more people involved in trad archery and hunting.
LCH
Stick with one bow, maybe two!
I resolve to get better from my surgery, then get to work on my shooting by turkey season. Also, I intend to make a lot more bows got friends and family, teach my nephew about bowyering, and get my wife and kids shooting with me more.
And did I mention build a lot more bows???? :archer:
I resolve to stop buying bows just as soon as I have enough of them.
:readit: :readit: :archer2:
1. Practice more out to 30 yards

God bless you Bro. Oh I got to send you some pics of this new bow I am building Ha ha.
More family time in the outdoors!!
AND
Officially beat TP and improve my consistency.
i would also say i will reduce bows and stop buying/trading, but that will just not happen (unless required for #1 or #2)
mike
Kill a deer. LOL
Actually just have fun
Too actually get my mess straight and HUNT - seems life has caught up with me past two yrs and the prep for hunting season has been lacking leading to some not so good hunts.
So I spent these last couple weeks walking new ground stump shooting - getting my eyes on places that I will follow for stand sites through spring and summer and will devote at least a couple days a month if not more to getting out to the woods.

To do most of my hunting this year with my '63 Dogleg Kodiak.
Dropping 35-40# wouldn't be a bad thing either,
off of me, not my bow... ;)
to get in better shape, and put more boot time on the ground.
poke a hog with a sharp stick
As far as archery - over the past 8 years I have flip flopped with my archery gear, get discouraged and run out for more modern equipment to speed up a kill, always know it's a mistake but do it anyway - costs me a few thousand each time and then sell it all again. I set a "goal" to get it all narrowed down by the time I turn 50 (less than two years). Shoot my traditional gear 99.9% of the time anyway and only enjoy the modern stuff for about 5 minutes. I'm sure I'm not alone is this behavior but wish it to stop. That's my goal anyway.
I've been in archery for just one year. I've bought and sold at least 15 bows, had a lot of fun, and have found some bows that I really like.
My goal this year is to hang onto and shoot the bows that I have. I also want to learn more about matching arrows with my bows.
My goal for 2013 is to shoot more 3D and become a better shot and gain confidence ! I'm much better than I was a year ago,but I see plenty of room for improvement ! I also want to start some sort of strength training so my bow isn't as hard to pull on cold mornings !
Get rid of/sell excess gear I don't use.
Find more/better ground to hunt.
Spend more time working for the "Kingdom".
Kick L.B's rear on a 3D course... you know who you are! :-)
Do more growing hunting
To decide if I should keep on trying to find the holy grail of a cheap light standardized bamboo arrow for stumping ... Or use all that time to shoot using carbon, aluminum or spruce at ever greater distances...
2012 hunting was pretty good to me, no complaints. 2013 could be even better? I'm in the early stage of planing a Montana trip and getting serious about up-dating my hunting gear.
I'll be selling off some stuff I don't use and replacing it with quality gear I can use for years to come.
I could stand to drop 10# and tone up, wife has me signed up at her cross-fit gym so that should happen.
Will be trying a string tracker this spring turkey season, sick of lost birds!
Will try and convert/make a trad hunting buddy, I thought it was gonna be my brother but he has no spark for hunting.
That's all I can think of, I'm sure I forgot some?
Good thread, will be a fun one to look back on.
Ryan
to hunt more
Sell more bows than I buy this year.
I have a few
I am on the right track to lose weight (myself)
Up at 4am to the gym everyday.
Get started on my bow building project
Just started building strings so check that one off
work with my boys on there form and stuff they want to do.
What is PBS that ya'll have joined.
Move pretty much all of my hunting bows except the Silvertips. I want to get more consistent and I think that will help. I will keep a couple of collectors and one longbow so I can go to longbow shoots, but the Tips will be my hunters. That will also allow me to get rid of a bunch of arrows.
I am going to try to make one big trip each year so I have something to point to. Bear hunts, DIY elk, pronghorn etc.....
D.P.
1-Finish refinishing my gamemaster jet.
2- Make it to Barry Wensel's bootcamp.
LinemanARK-better ask a more experienced member than myself, but PBS stands for The Professional Bowhunters Society

Prioritize my hunting and hone my skills.
