Title: Question on arrows.
Post by: Sigmazxcs on December 31, 2012, 10:57:00 AM
Hey guys,
Just wondering how should I go about choosing arrows for a bow I'm gonna build (T/D hybrid, dacron string). Aiming for a light poundage, 30# plus.

I'm looking through the classifieds for used arrows, but I've no idea what weight of the arrows, what shafts and what spine to go for. Looking at tables doesn't get any sense into my head either.

I'm making a bow for myself and my girlfriend's brother, so I've quite a bit of expenses to pay for, I'd appreciate it if you can give me wallet-friendly advices.  :)  we can't hunt in Singapore, so I will definitely not be using broadheads.

Please do say what you feel is fitting, I'd appreciate it very much! A blessed new year ahead, folks!

Easton 1716 aluminum work for my girlfriend in her 30# recurve and longbows.  (also ran her bows through Stu Millers Dynamic Spine Calculater) and 1716 came out the other side.  However, these are 400 grain arrows with a 100 grain field tip.  We cannot find a carbon shaft that is weak enough for her light draw.

Hey toehead,
Thanks for replying to me! Happy new year man, just passed midnight here.

I see, are those ready to use arrows? I'm keen on ready to shoot arrows since I don't have (and don't really intend to buy) the jigs.
And how much are the arrows? I've seen quite a few decent reviews on them.

Build the bow first and then make sure the weight is what you wanted and then buy the arrows.

I second the 1716s.

My daughter shoots 30# - at 5'3" she shoots ready made kids POC arrows - I've shot the bow with my 29" draw using GT velocity hunters 500 spine out to 50 yds with no problems. The POC arrows from Lancaster max out at 28" I believe whereas the GTs are longer - POCs are about 1/2 the price & a little less consistent - M
