Man that snow bleeds. Lol! Looking good.
:campfire:
single bevel would have gained another 1/2" at least
I think I've got 6 archery deer seasons under my belt, three in California where I seen a total of 3 legal bucks and three seasons here in Colorado where I've seen a lot of legal deer but haven't been able to score, at least not until now:) The other 5 seasons I was even using training wheels and missed a couple of easy shots. Here is what I seen next after waiting a bit to get out of the stand.

We need the full story...
Ray
The day started out lazy, my work days are 14hrs with commute time so there was no way I was going to be able to get up in time Saturday morning to make the 3hr journey from my door to my stand in time to be there at sunup, plus it's kind of cold that time of day out on the plains. I ended up in the stand about 10 I think. Wasn't there long when some other hunters on the SWA pushed a nice muley doe passed me and "I missed again" (that's how most of my hunting stories end), a short time later I hear splashing and ice breaking in the slough to my left and here come the 5 does and fawns that busted me in my stand the last time I was out. Two came by immediately and I passed on slightly long shot at one of them pefectly broadside because the other one was coming closer. I tried to stop her and she took off like a striped ape and the other deer followed. There were still 3 across the slough that just stayed put messing around for a while till another hunter came across the island they were on and pushed them my way. The doe I got stopped just right and put one through her. I was so mesmerized by my arrow sticking out of the blood spatter I totally forgot to mentally watch the deer out of sight. Fortunately the other 2 deer with her hung out right at the fenceline about 150yds away and weren't leaving, was pretty sure I could see something strange on the ground but wasn't sure so just waited about 45 minutes to get down and investigate.

Congratulations. That's a nice one!
Congrats!
Love hunting the snow!
The parking lot is about a 45 minute brisk hike from my stand, so it was an hour and a half round trip to get my pack board. I did the gutless method on her, I weighed my pack when I got home, it weighed 73lbs. By the time I finished the hour and a half hike to car and back, my face started to hurt, my smile muscles were cramping, undertaker wouldn't of been able to remove it had I kicked the bucket at that time.

This is the slough they came through. I moved my stand from the other side of this slough the last time I was out, I'm sure glad because the ice on the river and melting snow etc had raised the river enough to reflood this waterway, it was pretty much dry the rest of the season before.

Congrats, is that the Arkansas? I see a lot of whitetails along there looking for bunnies...
Very nicely done.Congrats!
This is my first trad killed big game, and first archery deer, I've gotten a couple of cow elk with training wheels, I guess bigger targets are easier to hit:) It makes it all the sweeter being that I took her on a hard hunted SWA late in the season. Proof even a blind squirrel sometimes finds a nut and I needed too, we used the last bag of deerburger from my rifle kill last year on Christmas Day to make chili, I was desperate:). Happy New Year everyone!
:clapper: :clapper: :clapper:
Congrats
The story isn't complete without bow, arrow, broadhead, shot distance, shot placement, etc. We need to know EVERYTHING!

Keith Chastain Wapiti, 62lbs at 31", 125gr 4blade Magnus Buzzcut, about 10 to 15yd shot and she made it 150yds. Hit her a little above center in line with the crease and it exited low and back somehow, I know she wasn't quartering to me unless she ducked and turned, it was a total blur, it did exit ribs not gut though, it might of deflected going through. I was in a hurry to get her cut up before dark and forgot to see if I hit a rib going in, I'm going to check it out when I go back to get my stand out.
Congrats! Pretty country you have there.
Congratulations on the doe,and those are some nice pictures.

Congrat!! Great story! You took some fantastic pictures....really enjoyed them. I can tell by the way you told your story and by the big ole smile on your face that you are truly in love with bowhunting.
Congrats again on your first deer with a bow..... here's to many more days in the woods with bow in hand.

Well done!!
Thanks for sharing. Looks like a nice place to take a deer. Congratulations! :clapper:
For an Old Goat, a 45 min each way hoof, is commendable in it's own right!
To hunker down and peel meat off the deer like that, and pack out 73# packboard... well, tip o' the hat, SIR...
Nicely done all around!

heck, where I'm deer hunting is a thousand feet lower in elevation from where I live, it's a cake walk compared to where we elk hunt at 5 to 6 thousand feet higher than where we live and a longer walk in! Just have to do it a little slower is all:)
Very nice!! Nothin like a 11th hour deer!

Good shooting, Chief. With both, the bow and the camera.

Very cool , thanks for sharing.
Just wanted to add a picture. I know how good scavengers clean up things in the wild, but I was a little surprised at the speed and thouroughness on this one. I shot the deer Saturday, went back yesterday to take down my treestand and so in five days they reduced this deer as far as I've ever seen one reduced. Must be a lot of coyotes out there. I've also never seen coyotes whittle down a skull like this. Looks like a creature on a science fiction movie. They ate the hide and all. The skull is situated to the left, you can see the lower jaws in the forefront and right about in the middle is the upper jaw/pallete.

Must be getting pretty hungry out there and the picking needed to be cleaned :)
Good one congrats.
Congrats! Nothing is wasted in nature.
Congrats!!
