Title: newbie wants to get his feet wet
Post by: Frosty the Bowman on December 30, 2012, 02:00:00 AM
Hey guys, I don't know if this is cool or not, if not my appologies.

I am new to archery, especially traditional archery.

I was wondering if there are any members close to the Spokane/Couer D' Alene area that might be willing to get together with a rookie and let him check out your equipment. I would love to try out a recurve or longbow, not many places around here sell any, let alone try them.

The one place that does wants $8.00 a pop to try em, that just aint happening on this poor college boys budget I'm affraid.

I also have a couple of kiddos that are interested, anyone have a kids bow they could give a whirl to, see what they think?

If this is not cool, someone just let me know, no hard feelings. Like I said I am new and just learning.

Thanks and hope to hear from someone soon.

Kevin

Kevin,

You may want to scroll to the bottom of the main forum page and post this request on the Idaho and Washington forums.

A good link to start you on your trad journey.

bow tuning:   http://www.bowmaker.net/tuning.htm

This wil give something of a primer on bows and how to set them up.  Recommend the following video to see why choosing the proper arrow is important.

Find a local Trad  archery club.  You can find a list in Trad Bowhunter Mag.  Good luck.

Kevin,
There are lots of good folks here in the traditional archery world.  I am sure someone will come along to help introduce you and give you a taste of archery!

Best of luck,
K.C.

Kevin,
You are only 20 minutes from James's shop at JD Berry Archery. Give him a call and set up a time to drive to his shop. look at his website, get his number and give him a holler. He will be more than happy to talk to you and give you some pointers.

Bow slinger,

I did what you suggested a whilw back, and posted a thread like this on the washington traditional forums.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Brianlocal3,

Thanks for pointing out J.D.Berry's archery, never had heard of them before.

Nice stuff, Thanks.

Anyone else with more good advice to offer?

Hoping to start my first build soon, hoping to make a decent go to bow I can hunt with.

Thanks, and keep the tips coming guys.

Kevin
