I was wondering has anyone bought the new Grizzly BH Kodiak that are sold in 170 gr. I am curious how much do they actually weigh out of the package prior to sharpening?
On 3rivers they are sold as 170 gr, but on the gizzly site, 160 gr?
Jeff, I think they are 160's. The old ElGrande's were 150 & 190, now they are both 10g heavier so 160 & 200.
You wont loose anything to sharpening cause they are ground to the proper bevel and pretty clean. They sharpen up pretty quick.

I had read in another post that the newer ones are really easier to sharpen because of the bevel grind. Appreciate the confirmation on that. I have a KME knife sharpener to hold the angle of the dangle. They look like a great head.
Most of mine are 172.8 on the digital scale. You can make them very sharp but you need to be pretty aggressive to build the burr at the beginning, then they hold the edge easily.
Great heads, very tough. Killed 2 big boars with a consistent blood trail.
They are now coming in around 160 grains instead of 170 grains. The last order of steel came in slightly under the target thickness. When you order this steel they only guanantee it +or-.001 thickness within the roll. This order of steel came in under the .023 we use for this weight head. Until we use up this 1000 lbs of .023 steel they will be around 160 instead of 170.

They are superb at 160 or 170.
I've used them exclusively this year and have had great luck with blood trails. They also shoot very accurately for me, like field points.
Simply one of the best !

Agreed, fantastic heads at all grains. I have the 140's and 160's.
I love my grizzlys ! I shoot the 190 El Grandes, and the 200 kodiaks, fantastic heads. Glad they are being made ounce again,,
yes there are so many choices in weights!
Thank you so much for all the responses. Cool to be on a website and actually hear from the guy that makes them. Thank you Bill!
I bought a pack of the heavier ElGrandes and quality was quite good. You still have to take off some metal with a KME system but they are very consistent and the ferrules are excellent.
No problem dragonheart!
