Anyone know where one or the other of these taper tools can be purchased in the U.S.A.? They appear to be very well-made and have received good reviews, but aren't readily available (from what I've seen) in the USA. Their quality is reportedly better than the Tru-Taper tool and MUCH better than the 'plastic pencil sharpener' variety. Would like to know where they can be purchased. Thanks in advance for any info.
UPDATE: Found a BearPaw version at Kustom King Archery. Still looking for a JVD source.
Have you looked on the 3R website
And I think Neet bought out bearpaw so maybe check them for a website or catalog.
Thanks for the tips. I just placed an order through Kustom King for a Bear Paw taper tool and some 'extras'. KK is a Bear Paw distributor. It's a nice site and has pretty decent prices.
If you are making Cedars, the 3rivers pencil sharpener type is terrific. On Sitka Spruce or Douglas Fir they tend to chatter a bit but it's still easy to touch them up with a small piece of sandpaper.
Thanks Jim, I do use mostly cedar but I've used the pencil sharpener taper tool for years (have had a dozen of them) and am tired of the crooked/uneven tapers that often result. A straight point is key to good arrow flight and it's time for an upgrade. I understand the Bear Paw tool is very good. We'll see.
True Taper have recently brought out a V2 version which supposedly fixes some of the issues with the old one. I have one on order and hope it is good?
