I know it came up a few months back but where did they go? They are a great head for me because I can get them really sharp with very minimal effort. The Elite have a good following and I'm sure they are worth the extra price but I liked what I was getting for the price with the originals.
I hope they aren't something of the past....
The original Woodsman's were being made by Todd Smith of Magnus broadheads. When he sold his traditional line he also quit making the original woodsman for 3Rivers. I don't think that this is the end of these broadheads it just seems like they have gotten behind on production.
I sure hope so. When they get caught up I'm going to stock up
If you are truly set on the original woodsman than it is worth the wait, but the Elites take the original's performance and blow it out the door. They are much easier to sharpen due to them being perfectly machined everytime. They are also totally indestructible. And the heavier versions have no vents for quiet flight. I used to shoot the originals but since I got the 175 grain elites I haven't even looked back at any other heads.
I have shot the woodsman for a number of years. I prefer the elite with the solid head, but i don't like the 5/16 ferrule. The original woodsman match up to my 11/32 arrows much better. Has anyone else noticed this?

The glue ons don't fit flush with 11/32 shafts? :dunno:
Glue on does, screw on does not. If you want it to be a screw in one piece solid head, they are 5/16. When they went to the solid head, which i too think is one of the best, the ferrule changed from 11/32 to 5/16.
Its it true they are to be made in China in the near future? I hope this is just an ugly rumor.

Do you mean the Woodsman or the Woodsman Elite? Or Magnus? Or?
The woodsman
Mike Solm of Magnus. Todd has been gone from 3RA and on his own for several years, but I pretty sure he wasn't making Woodsmans.
this is clear as mud now
I just got a new 2013 catalog today from 3r and they still show them with the proudly made in U.S.A. still there. My guess/hope is just a little behind in production.
I just looked at the 3Rivers online catalog and the Woodsman is show as out of stock with no date as to when they will be available. Be sure that we are talking about Woodsman(originally Wensel) heads and not Woodsman Elite. I really wish the 3Rivers had named the new heads made by VPA as just"Elite" or 3Rivers Elite" and left the Woodsman name to the original heads. Magnus sold the Magnus glue-ons and snuffer line to Thunder Valley. STOS was made by Magnus but that is now handled by someone in Texas. Apparently the Woodsman dropped out.
Any new new when the originals will be back?

(Yeah, me confused too) So are the same grain VPAs and Elites exactly the same?
for me, the original Wensel Woodsmans (glue on) are best - good price, great head. hot melt glued onto a 125 grain steel adapter and you've got the weight and penetration that makes for a BIG hole.
yikes! i'm down to about a dozen, i've GOT to get more!
I just yesterday noticed that Black widow has them in their catalog I only have 5 left...
Gonna try this again: "So are the same grain VPAs and Elites exactly the same?"

The 175gr and up are the same. 150gr and down the profile is shorter on VPA's and VPA's are non-vented on most of them.
I've tried to help a brother out. Been selling my surplus stash this season (made up at every conceivable weight)and the "well is now dry"!
Thanx much Jeff
