Title: Wyandotte Expedition Quiver is awesome!/ is strap orientation correct?
Post by: nineworlds9 on December 22, 2012, 07:55:00 AM
So on the bargain site, lol, I picked up a brand new Wyandotte Leathers 'Expedition' back quiver assembled and ready to use.  Normally it's a kit for $89 at 3Rivers, but apparently this fella put it together, never used it and then I was able to get it for a deal.  I got the Hill/classic longbow bug a little while back and I needed the right quiver to go with my Miller and Redman.
The leather quality on this quiver is superb!  Nice and thick, but it's already broken in/floppy right from the get go which is awesome, not stiff at all!  I doubt if I had to assemble it it would have been very difficult.  Anyone thinking about getting one of these, you will be very happy.
Anyway, I shoot lefty-  do I have the strap positioned correctly??  It came postioned the opposite to the pictures, and I switched it cause the seller claimed it was Righty.  I put it on after I switched the strap, and I 'think' its correct?

It looks to me that top strap should be on the other side for a lefty. That's the Hill style way but whatever works best for you is correct for you   :D

You know I had considered putting the top part of the strap on the same side..just wasn't sure, but I guess I'll have to try it both ways and see what works best...so far it just seems like the arrows are right behind my ear.  Hmm.

Thanks guys, I'll give each orientation a shot and see what works best for my reach.  Just wanted to know if there was a 'typical' way to attach it for lefty.

Thanks Charlie!  I originally bought one of those fleece "Dead Silent Quivers by Gene" (guy in Oregon) off the bargain site and while its very well constructed (and a steal at $39) it was a round shaped quiver and being camo fleece just wasn't classic/in the true spirit of the Hill bows I acquired.  I just had to have a floppy oval quiver and got lucky with finding this one for a great price.  Really, the leather is awesome, especially the fact it was already soft, this one will last many many years.

Top of the strap should be in the middle or in those empty hole in the upper left of the quiver looking at the back side (bottom picture). If you put it in the middle (where I parsonally like mine) the arrows will be located closer to your left ear--over on the side in those empty holes that are already there and the arrows will ride more off the shoulder.  I don't like them too far off the shoulder myself, but that's personal preference.

thanks david, might go ahead and punch a set of holes in the middle so i have all three options.  so far i have it setup like in the pics and will try it a few times, then i will try the far set of holes in the left of the pic, if neither of those work, middle for sure.  cool

Chuck, wearing it the way it is in your pictures, my guess is that the quiver will tip away from your body at the top. Here is how my quiver is set up for left handed use.

thanks for the pic!  yeah i've put it on the way its set up in the pic a few times and as i said arrows feel like they're by my ear and quiver does, yes, feel like its leaning away.  gonna try reposition similar to your pic

Notice that the quiver has two sets of holes on the top and bottom.  The bottom attachment is in the right place for a lefty, but the top strap has to be moved to the opposite side, i.e., pretty much straight above the bottom strap.  Right now, it's half and half.  Perhaps that's why the fella who initially built it sold it.  He had the strap on it wrong.  Can get it over a shoulder that way, but it won't work well for a righty or a lefty the way it is now.

orion, he had the strap exactly the opposite as i have it in the picture and said it was set up 'righty' maybe you're right, maybe wasn't working for him, ha.  i got a good deal and got the pals here to help me set it up right!
