Sixteen years ago I bought the book Bows and arrows of Native Americans. I proceeded to make a Yew wood bow and started shooting. That bow has long gone and I hunted with various Checkmates after that. All the while I always wanted to use a self bow and get a deer. I finally made a yew bow backed with Moose sinew shooting fir arrows and stone points. One shot and less than a 40 yd. track.

On my bucket list of things that I really want to do. Congratulations!! :clapper:
I got the deer at 4:50 pm. It was black dark at 5:10 when I got down from the stand and I took a quick look for blood and found none. I took roundabout way to get out of the bush and returned 3 hours later. My camera was frozen up and there was only one cell phone that took a poor picture. I'll take a pic. of my setup. Thanks for the congrats and I hope it encourages someone else to fill a dream.
Congrats!!
Way to go!! Would love to see pics.
Hearty congrats, I know exactly how you feel, wonderful feeling eh? Would love to see pics of your setup.
You must feel very proud and fulfilled, congratulations- pics, we need pics
Congrats!
Congrats on a great hunt and memories.
Further to Dream accomplished. This time I made a new yew bow with a moose sinew string. Unfortunately I shot over and wrecked my stone points. I did have to resort to a Grizzly broadhead and was successful.
God willing and the Creek don't rise I'll get it all together next year.
Here is last year:

Great job!
That's too cool.
Dennis, like you, I have the same book and always wanted to take a deer using American Indian equipment that I made myself. No varnish on the bow, no Dacron string, no shelf on the bow, and no nocking point. Making a really good arrow out of dogwood or river cane was the hardest part. Congratulations, I know how hard it is to accomplish. I got my deer this year also.
Well done and congradulations!!!
That's huntin'!
Awesome!!!
Nice job!
