Im a die hard Hill style fan but as of late ive been getting the itch for a recurve.
Call me fussy, but the only ones that really peak my interest, are the 50's styles.
Other than Great Northern, who's building this style?
Tolke Chinook looks pretty good. Don't have one, but Tolkes have a great rep. They're a Sponsor - Montana Bows.
Might look into a Kohannah Curve or RER Retro... :dunno: I love longbows for hunting, still have a place in my heart for recurves......
... mike ...
Wild Horse Creek Bows makes a 54" and a 60" in a 50's style recurve. Great bows!
Mike @ Maddog Archery builds a 50's style recurve. Sponser and a great guy to work with too!
There is a nice Holm Made River Runner for sale in the classifieds. I have one with a Cocobolo/Osage riser and curly Anigre veneers. True work of art and really zips an arrow!
The River Runner is a fantastic bow, I also just got a Kota Killum recurve that's darn nice! The G.N. Ghost is a nice one also. I love a longbow also but those 50's style curves just call to my roots!
I've about had them all. Toelke Chinook, McCullough 59er, and if you can find one a Robertson Peregrine are the pick of the litter in my eyes.
Lot of good suggestions, one more. Bear is reintroducing the 59 Kodiak in 60"amo. It must have been a good idea because they aren't keeping up with the orders! Good for them.
With all these great suggestions, this itch is gonna be hard to scratch. :biglaugh:
Check out the Java Man Duo Flex....one of my new favorites.

Hate those dang itchs! They get worse this time of year!!!
I own both the Mad Dog recurve and the Holm-Made River Runner. Both of them are great bows, and you can't go wrong with either one.
Dave
I had a Fox Breed that I would still own had it been made for a little shorter draw. I have a Reynolds Ramhorn that is a very sweet little bow if you can find one used. I don't think they are made anymore.
You will be hard-pressed to find a better one than the Toelke Chinook. Exceptionally quick, well mannered and like all Toelkes QUIET!
I have always wanted to shoot a Kota "Kill-um."
I don't know that it's a true 50's recurve, but Robert Lutkenhaus makes a really nice recurve. Calls it the Bearcat. predatorlongbows.com
Kohanna Kurve
I had a Super Ghost and I would take the Kurve any day.
Another vote for the Toelke Chinook. Not a sound and dead in the hand.
Black Widow PSR
I've had the same itch lately, must be going around. I love my mild R/D longbows, but I've been wanting to pick up a couple '50s curves as well.
Toelke or Kota, anyone pull a bow out of Kohannah in the last year?
Mahaska recurves, affordable, pretty, shot well and whisper quiet
Best from Spain
check out RER webite they have that 50 style look have two of their bows 60"@28@52lbs xr recurve and 60"@28@52lbs LX Long bow all are 3pc.takedown :) :archer2:
I like St Joe River recurves....
><>>
Glenn
My buddy has a Leon Stewart, sponser here, fiddleback maple limb veneers, sweeeet bow
Vintage Works
I've shot quite a few of them over the years ,the best ,in my opinion is the Saxon Selkirk, remarkable workmanship and unreal performance. My only problem now is its a bit heavy for me at 59#.
Of course there's always the used bow route. I picked up a nice '56 Kodiak dual shelf from a fellow Trad Ganger.
It's is a real joy to shoot. Plus, I can shoot half a dozen right handed and then do it again left handed. Mr F Bear seems to have had a pretty good idea of what works.
Herb Meland from Pronghorn Custom Bows is building them again. He is working on one for me right now, I can't wait!! Love the looks of the 50"s style!
I've got an EB Holcomb 59er that shoots great and you can't beat its beauty. If not him then a McCullough 59er.
I like my plane jane Kohannah Kurve.

Another vote from me as well!
Whippenstick Inferno recurve for me!
I like my WhisperStik's.
I just traded for a Whisperstik for my son. I've never handled one but heard good things about them....KY :archer:
Widow PSR, and the Toelke Chinook
whisperstik
My wife had a Kota Kill-um and she loves it and I wish it was mine,I shoot it one in a while when she isn't home ....
Toelke Chinook again, McCollough 59er, Great Northern Super Ghost all are at the top of my list. The Chinook and the 59er draw pretty much the same. The 59er has a different grip style but otherwise they are pretty similar.
I've always been a longbow guy, so I'm very curious; what is a 50's style recurve? Could someone maybe post a photo of one and a modern one and maybe point out the differences? I did pick up a vintage Bear Kodiak Magnum at a garage sale a couple years ago. Would that be 50's style?
Kohannah Kurve(that's what I'm hunting with lately), Northern Mist Ottowa, Mahaska recurve.
50's style bows are my personal favorite.
Hawken1911, think longbow grip with recurve tips. Light bows without the mass of later models.
Whippenstick Inferno. Quite & fast.

For a 50's style recurve, or any of his bows for that matter.... Kens bows are tough to beat. I'd highly recommend them. Kirk
Bill Foreman at Great Plains makes a nice one,and I think the one piece that Chris Sparks at Lewis Hollow Archery makes is considered a 50's style recurve.
Fellow knuckle draggers. Which one would you choose with a 31" DL?
64" Kohannah Kurve. Hands down the quietest recurve I have ever shot.
I know where there's a beauty FOR SALE right now for 2-½ bills
;)
McCullough 59'er if you are lucky enough to find a used one in the weight you want. A pretty long wait last I saw for a new one.
Roberston Peregrine is a really nice bow too. I had one several years ago and stupidly sold it.
Got an old 64" 57# GN Shadow if your really itchin.......LOL
Another vote for Whisperstik. Love my Mojo Stik at 58# AMO
Thanks for the info guys! I love learning something new.
tolke!!! I shoot the kesral. Sold te rest of my top of the line customs
You will not find anything quieter or faster than rer retro. I love the slim design and light weight! I also have A kota killum and a checkmate falcon - both good shooters - a bit meatier if you want a bit more weight.
My wish list includes chinook, mojostick, and holm-made rr.
Lots of nice ones out there! Good luck.
Hey Moleman , just love my BW PTFX for it`s shootability and the retro look .
Cheers from the Country that has everything except the Stanley Cup .......
Another vote for Whippenstick Inferno!!
Great performing bow, very fast, stabile and quite......
