I have to do something about the cold air whippin around my neck....does anyone offer / make a nice warm merino wool neck gaitor....?
Sponsors...?
KUIU.....but it is VERY LIGHT WEIGHT! I use it more so as a face mask
The one I use is made by Arc'teryx, don't know if they distribute near you.http://www.arcteryx.com/?EN
Grey Wolf Woolens will make you one to your specs.
Minus33 makes a merino wool neck gaiter for $21.99. They have pretty good stuff. It is black if it matters.
Good luck
First Lite makes merino wool neck gaiters in various colors/camo patterns (ASAT, dry earth, black, Mossy Oak maybe, one or two others). A bit expensive (usually run $35).
I've seen some fleece neck gaiters in various local stores (Academy, Dick's Sporting Goods, etc), but they're always in black, which I don't wear when hunting except on the rare occasion I'm in a pop-up blind.
I just use a shemagh as it has a lot of other uses as well.
I like the First Lite neck gaitor (balaclava) in ASAT
x2 on the First Lite! WARM!!!
I got a nice heavy one in camo that Bass Pro sold/sells. It's very warm.
I use the Asbell wool bandanna, seems to work well!
I have a Buff Wera and a Smartwool. Love em both.
Cabela's has one in "Wooltimate" with a wind barrier for $20-25
I have a merino wool "Buff", it is pretty lightweight but the weave/knit is very good and keeps you warm. It is very comfy and works good as a facemask, headcover, etc.
I also have an army surplus one I bought off some website. Nice and big, not as quality wool as the Buff.
There are hard hat liners made of fleece that work perfectly for a neck gaiter, not wool but they are warm and soft. I just put one out to pack for a fly fishing trip. You should be able to find them at an Industrial Supply House.
Have you checked Cabela's in Buda yet? Not to far from Pville.
I wear a wool scarf.
Lot of polar fleece ones out there, I use them for cold weather motorcycling as well as hunting very inexpensive I think mine is a Columbia! I also have a merino wool liteweight one from Kuiu
X2 minus 33.
Well, This is good timing.
We have been working on a gaiter type neck warmer and a scarf.
I hope to have a finished model of each for you all to check out today or Probably Friday/Saturday.
I will start a new post and link it here when I get ready for a photo,
Thank you and Merry Christmas.

Chuck..... :campfire:
X3 on the merino from Minus33. I have a couple wool neck gaiters and the Minus33 is the one I wear most often. Warm lightweight and doesn't itch, won't break the bank either.
go with a buff...they have all kinds of models...use them and they are fantastic
My wife knits mine
Russ, you gotta still have one of the wool scarfs the USMC issued us way back then. A little sewing and you turn that into a couple of neck gators.
I bought a 100% wool sweater at Goodwill for $5
I cut the sleeves off to make a vest. Then figured heck...and i sowed them together creating a circle....best neck protection I have.....and all by accident.
Got a warm vest out of it, too :)
Well, my wife got a couple gaiters made and then a friend stopped over and took em away for "field testing".
I am hoping to have another made up today so I can get some pics taken to show you all.
It is turning out very nice, I am happy with this first version.
Sorry for the delay,
CTT
I just talked to the boss and she is on it.

I do something similar to TxAg. I go to the thrift store and buy Merino wool sweaters for any where from $2 to $5. Some are in pretty good shape and I just wear them. The ones with holes in them I take to my moms. She cuts the bottom part where the elastic waist band is and sews them into neck gaiters with the elastic waist band part for your neck. I have a whole bunch of them and they work great. The sleavs also makegreat knit caps if they are bigger. You can wear Merino wool next to you skin and it is very comfortable.
my wife knits mine!
Just buy a wool scarf, and you can wrap it adjust it or tuck it in your shirt.
Works great.
I have a couple of the wool scarves and use them all the time, but I'm tired of getting itchy and having to fool with the ends...
thanks all for the info.
