I am trying to get a consensus of what weight broadhead most tradgangers shoot. So, if I'm doing this right you should see several options below. Any information received will be very helpful to me. Thanks
I use a 125 steel insert glued in a 125 head
160 grain Grizzly and STOS and 170 Abowyer Brown Bear
I use 160 gr. Hills and lovem.
I use 160 snuffers and 190 VPAs......neither weight on your list...........
I picked 150, but I'll shoot any thing from a 130g Zwickey to a 200 VPA 3 blade, they all work!
Eric
I shoot 145gr Bear Razorhead S/S's but I just picked up some 190gr Tree Sharks to try on my heaviest/fastest bow. I'm trying to get it to where all three of my bows have similiar trajectories so I can switch between them without having to adjust my shooting.
Can't vote on my phone...will later...
But....mostly 125 or 135 on 42 grain adapter
I assume you are looking for total head weight?
Normally a 175 grain broadhead with a 100 grain brass insert for a total of 275. But just set up a new batch of arrows with a total of 350 grains up front.
160 and 190.
200 or 225.
Since it wasn't on the list - 300. A 200 gr grizzly Kodiak with a 100gr insert
I use a 175 grain VPA 3 blade all the time along with a 100 grain brass insert.
Probably should have went with total head weight.
150gr + 75grain hit insert... 225 sounds better lol
The one that flies the best out of my bow, which right now seems to be 225.
160 snuffers As close to perfect as I've found
Thanks for all the input guys. Keep it coming. I've been trying everything from 145 to 210 and so far my bow likes the 150 heads. It seems like a lot of guys are using heads in the 200 grain range. Food for thought.
220 no optiopn, so I went with other.
190gr Tree Shark and 50gr Hit, brass insert...240grs.
200-225 on mine.
250 grain homemade single bevel head with 100 grain brass insert and a 20 grain piece of alluminum shaft as a collar.
I polled at 125 grains. I have 100 grain brass insert as well.
250 grain VPA Terminator 1 1/4" or Big Jim Big-3 at 300 grains...
not counting the 100 grain brass insert? 265 grains
200 grain Razorcaps.
The choices by guys shooting carbon are going to be a lot heavier than for those for wood or other material.
Broadhead 140-150
Insert 50-100
Total 190-250

Good point. No pun intended. Seems like 200-250 is a pretty common denominator. I wonder how many shoot single bevel vs. double...
125 grain head 125 grain steel adaptor standard inserts.
I shoot Ace 160s and 200s depending on setup.
The poll is going to be messed up I'm afraid. You didn't say how much up front weight you said broadheads. Most carbon shaft users are adding weight with adaptors or inserts.

So...I voted for 175-180.......been so for 25 years and have never seen a need to change.

X2 except I am currently shooting 150 grain Steel Force Hellfires with standard aluminum insert. I just placed an order to 3rivers for 100 grain inserts and I will be shooting 100 grain broadheads as 200 grains total weight flies best. Although I may switch it up and go with Simmons Interceptor at 205 grains with a standard insert.
I ordered the brass inserts mostly for my old arrows I am going to make into small game arrows.
190gr Simmons Interceptors
Simmons LandSharks 165 and TigerSharks 175 both screw on's.
200. I'm suprised how few votes 125 is getting.
I use 50 gr inserts and have tried a number of heads with them - I use 175 the most so that's what I polled. If I was supposed to add insert weight, then I'm at 225.
I try to set up all my bows set up to shoot arrows with 125gr tips and use weighted inserts to accomplish this. This helps me keep the broadhead budget in check and cuts down on confusion.
100 grain brass inserts and 175 grain VPA's, maybe someday 180 grain GK Silverflames if I hit the lottery :D but the175 grain tip weight seems to fly best from my setup
Roger....might be different if it was more specific....some heads glue on, some screw on, some are glue ons made to be screw ons with adapters....
If its JUST the head, then I would have voted for 125
I wanted the heaviest head that I can get to tune because it gives me more confidence that as long as I do my job, the broadhead will be allowed to perform as it was designed. Never heard of overkill, but I darn sure dont want to be worried about if my setup is lethal enough
160-165 Ace and Magnus, Magnus Snuffers.
125 grain Ace standard glued to wood. I've use heavier, up to 190 grain Ribtecks and Simmons. Didn't see any advantage on deer over the 125's. Has more to do with arrow flight...now if I was to hunt cape buffalo.
130 broadhead on wood - 130 broadhead with 100 adapter on carbon - 14% & 23%,FOC respectively
250
160 grain STOS so I picked "other"
125 plus aluminum adapter.
I shoot 260 gr, and 300 gr heads
150 grain stinger with 50 grain brass insert
I would shoot 175 grn. if I could get that weight head for wood arrows, so I shoot either 160 or 125 depending on my set up.
