Has anybody shortened this up to use for a kid, http://www.tradgang.com/backquiver/? I was wondering how it would work. My son wants one, and if my son gets one, my daughter would need one too, and it would get expensive quick.
Or does anybody have an patterns for a youth back quiver?

Make sure the reductions are proportional and you'll be fine. I'd keep the holes about the same though. Some 5-6oz leather should do the trick.
Start with how long their arrows are and make the quiver to fit their arrows. If you have some stiff cardboard type paper then you could experiment with size and test their reach by making a paper one first.

If you want to do it cheap and easy, I've taken and laid my kids arrows out, usually three, side by side. I'll have them on top of some heavy brown paper like a grocery sack.
Then I'll draw a straight line down one side and put a hook on the bottom like this: J. Then mark the center and cut out the paper along the first line and then fold the paper along the center line. Then you end up with a pattern that is kind of like putting a J and a backwards J together. Get the idea?
Then before sewing it shut along one side with some artificial sinew or doing a whip stitch around it with some 1/8" leather lacing I'll attach the shoulder strap to the bottom of the quiver. Once the quiver is sewn up I'll adjust the strap and attach it at the top.
Cheap and easy way to build one! Of course down sizing the one in the link above would work too.

Yep they grow out of them and shoes so fast!
Another suggestion....i use manilla folders taped together to make a pattern....easy to work with, adjust, redesign and add to later when you need to change the size.
I have access to AutoCAD and have only used it for like 20 years, so making the drawing and printing them out is not the problem, just where to get started is. Oh well I guess that I will make several sketches and see what I think about them. Thanks for the help.
Where I work we have those large desk calendars that have the stiff card stock backing....good timing ;)
