I ordered Jay's book "Longbow" last week and received it a few days ago. I have to have another surgery related to my treestand accident from last fall in one week. The last hopefully...4 is enough dammit. Figured I'd order a good book to read while I recovered as it looks like my surgeon is gonna nix any bow drawing for at least 2 weeks. Sadly, I won't be able to read this book during recovery...I BLEW THROUGH IT LAST NIGHT!
It is a great book of short hunting stories written in a way as if Jay has pulled up beside you and told it to you mano-e-mano. I have a collection of books that will never depart my grasp so long as I have a breath: All 3 books by Jay Massey, most of Don Thomas' works, Gene and Barry's contributions, among others. This one will join that group no doubt! Problem is when you start it, you finish it the first day :)
Congrats to Jay on a fine book. He is a fighter, a survivor, a true outdoorsman and a fine author :campfire:
I got mine this week but I'm trying to save it for my vacation in February. I don't know if I can wait that long though.
Mine came last week (I think) ;) Wont see it till Christmass morning (cant wait) :D
Got it today. Very good read so far.
I am waiting for mine and can't wait to read it!
Received mine on Mon. Could not believe how fast it got here !!
i got mine last week n i read a few pages at a time just so i dont blow through it quick very good read sofar i can see myself getting a few more archery books i dont read to much other than outdoor mags so when i saw this book i thought ill read that glad i got it
I got my copy last week as well. But I am not even going to open it yet. I'm weird that way, but books like that I like to save for when I have plenty of time to sit and savor it, and it will stay on the shelf for now. Mark Baker's book is right underneath it. We have a camping trip planned in the south next month, and that sounds like a perfect time to dwell on each word.
great idea whip im sure you will enjoy it
Whip - you have more will power than I do. Read both books in a couple settings. Now I'm reading them both again at my leisure. Both are great reading!
I've had Jay's book for sometime now, and highly recommend it....I have always been a fan of his style and skill at putting together a great story! On top of that, he's even a better guy in person...at least around a campfire. This is a book for any bowhunters collection.
Just picked up a hardcopy of yours too Mark! Looking forward to it!!!
Sounds like a good read Mike, think I'll add it to my Christmas wish list. Good luck with your next and hopefully final surgery.
Joe
Every chapter is better than the last. Its refreshing to see a hunting writer come to terms with our life and limited time given. This book seems to be about a hunters life more than hunting, really enjoyable.
In the process of ordering Jay's book, and Mark's as well...I am already so far behind on books, but that never seems to stop me from buying more.....a man can never have too many books!

Just saw this, and wanted to offer up some thanks for the words. The picture is for Wapiti - Jay Massey on the Moose John just before he passed. Jay, Gene, and Don Thomas have long been my friends and my inspiration.I have their works bunched on my bookshelf together, and am always humbled when I go back and read the simple, powerful words of giants. - Jay
Karen and I wanted to thank everyone for all the support! "longbow: A Hunting Life" sold over 225 copies in December so far, whether from us at www.campbellsquest.com (http://www.campbellsquest.com) or on Amazon paperback or e book. Thanks! - Jay and Karen Campbell
I have to say this book is fantastic. I'm half way through and really enjoying it. Great writing and stories. :campfire:
Thank you Jay!!! I hope the books are flying off the shelves (and the kindle sales are burning up the download world) :)
The picture of Jay Massey is outstanding. By the way, looking at my "never loan-never leave my house" top shelf of my library are all 3 of Mr Massey's books, a few by Don Thomas, Barry Wensel's book, two of Barry's, Art Young's book and one by Mr Jay Campbell.
For those of you who have not read Jay's book, do so! It is more than a collection of hunting yarns...it is a book that will make you appreciate a life lived to the fullest.
Just bought the Kindle version. Can't wait to dig in.
Tom
Jay, my wife got me one for Christmas. Half way thru it now and I will say this. . . I like it. Well done.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and past experiences.
Wish I had known you all these years cause I feel very much the same regarding a lot of instances you talk about.
Tradgangers, I think this is a good read. Try it !

Got the book a few months ago and read it in its entirety the first evening. Probably should have weighed in then, but got busy, etc. My sentiments mirror Wapiti792. Just an excellent book by someone who's been there, done that. Thanks for the experience, Jay.
I got my copy earlier this year, and Jay and Karen both signed it. They (esp. Karen) are my bowhunting heroes. I've read it completely 4 times already, and am always going back for certain chapters. This is some of the finest bowhunting writing available, along with Don Thomas, who I can't say enough nice things about.
Great read!! Got it through Amazon.
Just finished mine (paperback).
So, Jay, when does "Archer's Paradox" come out? :readit:
Just ordered the book and am anxious to read it.
I'm sure it will be a valued addition to my archery library..
Trad Gang Fellows, Thank you so much for all of the interest, kind words, and support! We've heard encouragement from so many folks over the last few weeks who got or bought the books over the holiday! We are interested, always, in hearing from everyone about what they like, don't like, and especially what your favorite story was (if you have one). This is our first book, you know, we're kind of new at this. :-)
The Book is available signed and endorsed by both Karen and me from www.campbellsquest.com (http://www.campbellsquest.com) ($14.99 for a few days more until the holiday sale ends), and the e book is on Amazon for $8.95. We still hope to have "Archer's Paradox" the adventures of "Big" Conner from Alaska to Isla Mona, out by the end of 2013. Thanks again! Best, Jay and Karen (http://i.imgur.com/oSbna.jpg?1)
Thank's Jay and Karen, one of the best trad bowhunting read's,I like your style.
I mentioned above that I just finished the book.
I failed to mention that it was great!
As a guy who spends a lot of time reading and writing (for work), I have a great appreciation for a writer who knows how to squeeze every drop of juice out of a word. Jay does. If I ever write a book, I would like to emulate his literary style.
Thanks, Jay!
I just ordered mine. Looks like a good read.
Rick
Really enjoyed the book. In fact, I liked it so much I bought a copy for both my dad and brother. From the book, "The wilderness is a constant. It advertises a timeless thing and delivers on the promise. People leave, but the wilderness remains."
Merry christmas Jay and Karen I ordered my book from you folks and started it christmas day. Great job was hard to put it down read it in 2 days. I allways wanted one of those plastic remingtons. Im a dog guy and would never be without mans best friend but found my self blinking a bit after that chapter. Looking forward to more great reading from you thanks
Fellow Trad Gangers: Our Holiday sale is ending on the 1st with the New Year coming, so we gathered up 20 new reviews of the book, and thought we'd put them here! Tell your friends, and maybe a few more folks will join in. :-) $14.99 signed and endorsed by both of us at www.campbellsquest.com, (http://www.campbellsquest.com,) and its also an e book (and paperback) on amazon. We are so humbled and gratified by the support in the last 2 months. Thank you all! Keep telling us what you like, and what your favorite stories are! Best, Karen and Jay Campbell

"All I can say is Wow!! Great writing. Couldn't put it down once I started. I have always considered Dr. Thomas as the standard for outdoor writers. Your book will sit comfortably on the canoe book shelf right next to his. Your style is refreshing and honest. Thank You." Brian Thibodeau
"Campbell is the needle, the reader is the thread. Prepare to be woven through a complex fabric of life, love, loss, and retribution on a globe trotting journey." David Tetzlaff
"I'm enjoying your book. Inspirational is an understatement." - Brian Kelly

"Mr Campbell, it is a great book and you are a gifted writer. I have enjoyed every word so far. I am an avid reader and I have to say that you are one of the best I have read in the Traditional hunting line." Charlie Goodman
"I just finished "Longbow" in two sittings. Its been a fantastic read. It gives voice to the simple fact that its not the trophy, it's the hunt that makes life so amazing. It's been a very long time since I shed a tear whilst reading. Thanks to the both of you for sharing." Eric Cashion
"This man Campbell is an adventurer. In all my years of exploring and hunting the wilds I have yet to see a storyteller that is his match. He guides you there, and offers just enough for the hunter in us all to pause and think. That is special, and so by God is this book." Steve Ewing
"I have to say this book is fantastic. I'm half way through and really enjoying it. Great writing and stories." Joe Caba

"Honest and heartfelt..Not your typical hunting book. Jay brings a personal element to his adventures that is fresh and welcome. Looking forward to his next one." Trad742 (http://i.imgur.com/ot0Ia.jpg?1)
Yes....this is a "must read" for bowhunters or any "true hunters". We can only hope that Jay and Karen will continue to create and share adventures with "we" the reading public.
Jay
Just finished your book. "AMAZING" :knothead:
Great Book! I received mine for Christmas and read it soon thereafter.
