hi all looking to make a broadhead change after several years of shooting magnus and zwickys both are great heads however.
i really like the way the simmons and centaurs look and have a couple of older simmons heads and they fly great and from what i have read and seen they are devastating on game just looking for opoinions from users before i spend hard earned money thanks and God Bless
looking to stay around 200 grains plus thnx
I like dealing with Dave at Simmons. I have 175gr. Tiger Sharks and 190 Tree Sharks, and they both fly great. If you want to stay with standard inserts you will have the 190 gr Tree Shark and the 205 gr Safari. You could go with the adapters and the glue ons for different weight options.
Ralph another thing I forgot to mention is I think if you pick Centaurs he only has glue on no screw in.
They both fine heads. You can get 6 glue on simmons heads fairly cheap for the price of broadheads these days.RC
I shot the 190 grain Tree Shark screw in model, just have to find a way to sharpen them and they will be on my arrow come turkey season! Possibly late season here in IA as well, depends how well I shoot my TT
Hey Jacob,I have his Steel Master kit and it works really well. I think it is only $40
I have both brands each in many different models,, of the two I'd go with centaur,,, 1 they come in what ever bevel you want and 2 they have the chisel type point. simmons comes already set up for screw in where centaur you have to glue in the inserts which some like me prefer so we can get the blade direction where we want it (Me its @ 3&9)or use different weight steel inserts for super heavy FOC.
Both Battle axe and Big games by Centaur are more versitle and alot easier to sharpen or just strop them... Simmons I have the interceptors mounted now and they are also great heads but twice the time to sharpen I think and tougher on the re-sharpens.
Centaurs come 3 to a pack, my treesharks came 3 to a pack my interceptors came 6 to a pack,, so price depends on what you want.
I can only speak on the simmons heads.I shoot the interceptors and tree sharks.Super easy to sharpen on the paper wheel system, hair popping sharp in less than a min.Leave great blood trails even with less than perfect hits.
Thanks guys to be honest I am kinda cheap when it comes to broadheads, when I do my part the heads I am using are ok but I want better than ok keepem coming thnx
I just killed my 92nd deer with Simmons heads on Thanksgiving morning. I started shooting them in 1990, and with the exception of one season (wanted to see what all the fuss was about with the big 3-blades), have shot them exclusively ever since. They have never failed me.
Jim builds good stuff too, that's why I shoot one of his bows. Whatever you decide, you've got two good heads to choose from. Both made right here in the USA.
Thnx Chris you keepin RC honest down there?
Simmons the only BH in my quiver.
Just ordered a pak of each of Jim's Centaur heads. :bigsmyl: :campfire:
I have the Centaur heads , the glue on..... They do the job quite well Good grouping And pretty tough It took me awhile to learn how to sharpen a single bevel But I don't see a reason to change :archer2:
I just ordered some Tiger Sharks last night. They are glue ons that weigh the same as my Deltas, so I shouldn't have any tuning issues. I was impressed with the carnage wreaked by the Simmons heads in the broadhead kill pics thread. I figured I had to give them a try. I've never had much trouble making things sharp, so I'm not too concerned about that. Looks like a short knife blade to me.
buy your bows from Jim and your broadheads from Dave and you got the best of both worlds
Effectively sharpen single beveled Battle Axe BH's with a radiused 3 sided Jewel stick and obtain a glass finish with a quartz rod(obtained from a used high sodium light bulb).
Own the sharpening kit whicht Centaur carries, however it has yet been tried since enjoying the success of the aforementioned.
I don't shoot either one but after watching Jim try to destroy one of his on his webpage, I'd take the centaur. Nothing personal and after finally bending the tip slightly, he just heated it a bit and bent it back. Proof that you infact could break an anvil if you try hard enough. They got me convinced. God Bless
Thnx guys I ordered some tree sharks gonna order some double bevel from Jim and try both lol Dave is a class act as well I agree the video Jim has on his heads are amazing can't wait to.send.one at a deer will be late dec before I get back out
I always assumed both brands were made by Dave, since he and Jim are good friends and live in the same state?
good question but don't think so. both will getter done! i have one of the centaur heads jim send me to shoot all i can say is intimidating looking head and it flies great.
Ralph, After reading all the posts on the Simmons heads and seeing the number they do on deer I just ordered a pack of Tree Sharks as well. Fred
Hi Fred I also ordered some big game heads from Jim I always thought they wouldn't fly I was wrong Merry Christmas
