The elbow on my bow arm is all jacked up. Thought it was tendonitis, but went to the doctor and found out it is bursitis. I have had three shots in the butt in the last three days and am scheduled for two more. Also on two prescriptions. Finally starting to feel a little better and reduce the swelling.
Anybody have any experience with this? Hoping to be back in good shooting form for Solana the first of the year.
I have had this. I was not in to archery at the time, but it took a long time to recover. I recall having my arm immobilized for weeks. It comes and goes but I can control it. I feel it coming on and can modify what I am doing for a while and it subsides.
I am sure everyone is different but with my case when it was real bad Solana wouldn't have been an option. I hope you recover more quickly than I did.
I did not do any shots.
looking for a second opinion...I don't much care for your...
Sounds like your situation was a little more pronounced than mine. (hopefully) :archer2:
Thanks for the input.
Good luck-Don't forget to turn the other cheek. Hap
I had the elbow problem years back, it started during the off shooting season. The doctors could not give relief that lasted very long and it came back when I started shooting in the summer. Ice, supplements and a good chiropractor did the trick for me. I will never use the steroid treatments again, too many side affects.
I whapped my elbow on my bow arm on a t-post years ago and developed bursitis in it. It swelled up big time eventually. It really didn't bother me drawing the bow, being my bow arm, but when I loosed the string and the bow recoiled, #%*&*#*. Felt a hot poker stuck in my elbow joint. The doctor drained twice and it felt better but it took quite awhile before it totally cleared up. I had to drive with my left arm on the arm rest, and sleeping was an event sometimes. That's been probably 20 yrs. ago and still if I bump that elbow I either feel something in there or my brain is panicking perhaps.
After it was drained and a dose of meds, I could wrap my elbow and shoot OK, just for not as long a period of time. So good luck, no instant cure methinks but I'm no doc or expert. Just know what my experience was.
Hey, ditto on the steroid treatments. I went through that with plantar faciitis and ended up with side effect problems myself.
I'm fighting that again only in my other foot but I now know stretches and stuff to help. No shots for me! :-)) I hope!
Gregg,
I had a bout with it about 23 years ago. Couldn't do anything with my arm other than stick elbow in the air and keep my hand touching center of back just below my neck. This lasted about 6 days and then things were back to normal.
ER gave me some kind of shot which never seemed to help at all, but things got back to normal and I haven't had another bout since. And hope I never do, it was probably the most pain I've ever been in. At least for the first day and a half of the attack.
Dang Gregg! I do not know anything about bursitis but I sure hope you get it all figured out before next month!
Good luck with it and I'll be seeing you at the airport.
Bisch
Thanks, guys. I'm optimistic.
Gregg, hope you get it fixed!
Gregg-you need to have an ionization/detox treatment to get the inflammation out of your body. You also need to watch what you are eating which can give you inflammation! Eat more vegetables! Good luck and hope you get better soon!
Kenny :bigsmyl:
rest it and ice.
I have it my shoulder, got a codizone shot last wed, feel really good, I am able to shot my bow now and run pretty much pain free.
Those shots hurt like no other.
Had bursitus in my knee once. One cortisone shot right in the knee fixed it right up. I remember the needle was about 6 inches long.Never felt a thing.
I have had it in a knee which came back every year about the same time (thanksgiving) meds and not using it works. Felt like a needle was sticking me if I was to kneel. It would go away in about a month. Truck drivers get it in the elbow from there left arm resting on the door, don't do that. You'll be back soon.
Thanks, guys!
I feel for ya.
Had a combination of bursitis and tendonitis in my right shoulder a few years back. I didn't shoot for 14 months. One of the most painful things I've been through.
Gregg, fire off an email to DonT. But I'm guessing God must be a Seminole .
Don,
The first suggestion is a good one. As for the second...I'd watch for lightening if I was you! :D
The cortizone will help, but man, do they hurt...just got one in the bottom of each foot....
Pretty sure I saw God.

:scared: Russ, I'm not certain that was God. You might want to check some ID! :readit: That sounds like a visit to the booger man. :help: Just remember to check your compass before going to any light
Good luck Gregg. Steroids can help. Watch those side effects and rest as much as possible.
I had it last June. Was in hosp. for 4 days, finally Vacomycin IV took care of it. I didn't shoot for almost 3 months. Take care.
well the good news is that the swelling has gone down noticeably. Now there is only a slight bulge on the point of the elbow itself. Hopefully the treatment plan will continue to show results.
In the left shoulder once.Healed up a week or so amd took inflamation meds. Came back a short time later. I dropped down near 10 lbs in bow weight and has not came back. Been about 6 years. Good luck on your Solona hunt. You`ll be fine. May consider the less lbs on your bow in the future as you get....older.lolRC
Glad to hear of some improvement. I have never had bursitis but have had tendonitis in both elbows at the same time, so I know the kind of discomfort and the detrimental effects on your archery something like this causes. Keep following the doctor's advice. Maybe it is as simple as you need to drink a better grade of whiskey.
Thanks, RC. That is promising.
Sam, I can't afford better whiskey.
Arnica Montana, Arnica gel, no coffee, no booze
Had it in my left elbow last spring! # bouts of intervenous and 14 days of antbiotic pills took care of it. this is a very serious condition and should not be taken lightly!
Gregg, I have no experience with what you're dealing with.
But from what I saw on another thread, your antlers may grow out crooked this year...!
:smileystooges:
Seriously, I wish you the best of luck, and rapid healing!
I'm a lot biased, but I would look up a therapist in your area and get a referral. I would lean toward a Certified Hand Therapist like myself, but any PT or OT that specializes in orthopedics should be able to address the issue and compliment the injections or other adjunt treatments. If you have any specific questions, pm me. Good luck brother!

That's funny as heck right there!
Today was day five of antibiotic injections and I am also halfway through the oral antibiotic treatment. Showing GREAT signs of improvement. The swelling is almost gone and the tenderness/pain is not near what it was. Still some progress to be made, but it appears from the posts on here that I am lucky to be on the milder end of the spectrum.
Good advice on the therapist and I was seriously leaning that way two days ago. Seems like the tables have turned my way, but if things change by the time the antibiotics are gone that will be my course of action.
Thanks, gang!
Looking good for Solana from where I am sitting now.
Very glad to hear you are responding to the treatment. M aybe I missed it but if you are responding to antibiotics it is more than just bursitis, but also an infection, heed your doctors plan of therapy.
Be looking forward to meeting in Texas. :campfire:
