Title: Ilf long draw set-up
Post by: khardrunner on December 02, 2012, 01:20:00 PM
In another thread I was enlightned concerning my current set up and its incompatibility with my long draw. It is a 23" riser and short limbs making a 64" bow.

If I want to set up something compatible with my longer draw and stick with a 64" bow (if possible) what set up should I use?? I draw 30.75 inches.

19 inch riser and long limbs

21 inch riser and medium limbs

I dont want to bother one of the bowyers since funds dictate that I will probably need to buy used. I feel like that would be abusing them. So I ask you guys, what should I do?

Mt current ILF set up is a 21 inch riser with long limbs.  That makes it a 66 inch bow, but it is very smooth.  Unless length is an issue try the long limbs.  They offer smooth draw and a nice long power stroke with your draw.  Good luck.

17" riser and extra long limbs to stick with 64". 19" riser and xl limbs would feel smoother at your draw and less finger pinch. Long limbs and your draw is pushing it imho.

I have long recurve limbs on a Hoyt 23" Excell....smooth as glass out to 30". I would think even longer! It's 68" but for 3-D and such it doesn't matter how long. I would think anything 64" or over would be good for you!

I like the Trad Tech Pinnacle II riser (19") with the Trad Tech Black Max  long ILF limbs for a 64" bow..I draw just over 30"...

I have a 30 1/2" draw and usually shoot a 17" riser and long recurve limbs for a 62" bow.  You can get away with a little less limb in the curve then a longbow.

With a longbow I shoot the same 17" riser and XL limbs.

The key is having enough limb to carry the load.

Give me a call if you have any questions.

I think I get it. It seems that long limbs on the 19" riser would be fine, in fact probably better than the 21" riser with mediums. Working limb length is more important than riser length though both have an effect.

Thanks!
