I recently purchased a 62" Tomahawk Woodland Hunter and was wondering if 30" draw with the 62" bow will be too much.
I have only shot 64" R/D bows and 68" Hill style bows so far.
I see the 3 Rivers chart 29" is max for 62" bow.
Thanks
Traver
I have never shot a Tomahawk, but in my opinion, you will be fine.
Call 3R and ask they are pretty helpful, I think the inch wouldnt be a problem.
I have a 30" draw. A wide body and 36" sleeve length will do that for you. I have been shooting Super Shrew and Shrew Classic Hunter hybrid bows exlusively for the past 7-8 years. None of them are over 58". Shorter bows with longer draws make the string angle more acute and could cause pinch issues for you. I shoot 3 under and have never had a problem with finger pinch or accuracy. You can adapt to shooting a 62" quite well if you want to.
I have a 30 inch draw and I shoot a 62 inch longbow. I won't name the company who makes it because the bow is a fantastic bow but it doesn't like coming back that last 1-2 inches. That being said I bet if I dropped weight from 55@28 to 50@28 it would be more manageable.
I'm shooting a 56" Shrew Classic Hunter drawing to 30" no peroblems and the plus is
you dont have to take your hat off to shoot it.....
I shot a 62" Tomahawk at 30"s 3-under with no problems.
I have several longbows 62" and under that I shoot all the time.
I draw around 30.5" or so, and my 62" MOAB is no problem at all. I also shoot 3 under, but I don't think there would be any problem shooting split.
I get the bow probably on Thursday so I will let you know. Never really thought much about string angle and shooting with a hat. My string has always hit my hat with longer bows...interesting.
I don't think you will notice any stacking or experience a failure in the limbs but you will probably get a little bit of finger pinch.
I was pulling a 64" Tomahawk Legacy (3-piece) at Compton's last year, and the 3R employee that was working the booth stopped me before I reached full draw... he said he could see that I was overdrawing the limbs, from the way they were flexing. I draw 31".
I would say that a 62" 2-piece Tomahawk is right on the edge for a 30" draw, but I am not a Tomahawk owner. I personally prefer the smoothness of the longer bow.
If you don't feel the bow stacking then you should be good to go. I you are worried about the extra 1" above the 29" spec then contact 3R and they will let you know about that.
I draw 30.5". I do not own a Tomohawk, but have had some 62" longbows, and they worked fine. However, I do prefer a longer bow for a smoother draw.
You aren't going to hurt the bow, but you will have to decide if the pinch is too much or not.
I draw 29.5" on a 62 inch longbow. Only noticed stacking when the temperature was below freezing (but that could have been my muscles being cold).
I draw 30" and have 64", 66"& 68" bows. I only shoot 68"bows now but never had an issue with the others. Also had a 60" Morrison Dakota and no issue with that either. Can't speak directly to the Tomahawk but I wouldn't think you'll have any problems.
Check with 3R, they don't put max draws on the charts for laughs. I know mine mean max draw for that length bow period. After that you are no longer bending the limbs correctly and start bending stuff not ment to bend.
Give them a call and be safe.

no kidding!!!and you might get away with bending that stuff for a while--but not forever!!not to mention the tuning issues that arise with overdrawing bows and stacking---good luck!!
I shoot a 62" 7 Lakes LB which pulls 58#@ my 30.5" draw. I shoot it split finger and have no problem with finger pinch or stacking. However, I would also take into account the advice from 3R, as they are the experts when it comes to their bows. Good Luck.
I draw 32.5" and shoot a 66" Widow PL.
I shoot a 68" bow with a 31" draw, smooth draw, no stack. IMO if you have a long draw keep the bow long, just makes sense!
I just got off Tomahawk bows website and they recommend the longest draw to be used with a 62" bow is 29". I don't think the extra inch will cause limb failure like I said earlier but you might get some finger pinch.
I draw 30.5" and I definitely prefer 66" longbows. I have shot the same models in 62" and 64" but I shoot the longer bows much better.
I would recommend getting longer limbs.
Guys,
Thanks for all the information. I recieved the bow and I had been waiting a long time for a used Woodland Hunter to show up (just couldn't pull the trigger on $800.00) and I am definitely feeling the last inch and getting some finger pinch. If this bow would have been 64" it would have a permanent home. The bow is beautiful and has great flat grain camo pattern. The Woodland camo has changed alot since the first days of making this style of bow. If anyone wants to trade a 62" 55@28" for a 64" let me know.
