Thanks to Rob DeStefano's endless loop string jig "how to" I now prefer endless loop strings over twisted flemish strings.
Right now I serve my end loops with with #4 nylon. But sometimes depending on the number of strands of string used, #4 doesn't seem to provide enough padding for the end loops. I've tried double serving but I find that to be a pain.
Are their thicker diameter materials out there that I can use for loop serving?
Thanks,
Steve
I don't pad my loops at all. Never saw a need for it. I used #2 end serving (Brownell or BCY?). It's the fastflight-type stuff and wears much better than nylon.
Sounds to me like you are getting 1/2 the strength of Flemish for about the same diameter and mass. So what do you like about them??...O.L.
I don't dislike Flemish strings. I like endless for no other reason than I just like to make 'em and I'm a bit faster at it. And heck with the Fast Flight, TS, DF97 etc I don't think strength much enters the equation anymore. I was just thinking in the theoretical re: tip potection. And according to Jason it sounds like it's a moot point.
For those that are interested I just went to the BCY website and they have a large selection of materials ranging from .014 to .030 that can be used for end servings. I'm not sure what Brownells twisted nylon #4 comes out to...probably around .018.
Thanks,
Steve
