I gotta post this for all of us who go out there day after day hoping "this might be the day." William Lyon is a "young" friend of mine from Tyler, AL. I first met and hunted with him in the mid/late '80's when he was 12-14 years old. I knew way back then he had something "special". We've kept in contact over the years. He's since married and is raising a couple fine young sons who are following proudly in his footsteps as great young hunters. A couple years ago I put William in touch with Brian Wessel who built him a Tall Tines recurve. William is quickly becoming a local legend in Lowndes County, AL. Yesterday he was heading into his hunting area with a climber on his back when he sees this great buck heading towards him. He drops to his knees/chest and holds his recurve parallel to the ground with the stand still on his back. He's hoping the buck will pass by a log at about 15 yards. But no such luck. The buck turns and walks right to him. At 8 yds. he turns and William was forced to shoot his way out. He sinks one to the feathwers right through the heart. The big guy only made it 75 yds. Now... stay tuned folks. This morning he heads out and does it again! I'll need help to try and post the pictures so if I have any volunteers I'll email them to you. Now you have to realize these are not midwestern bucks. These are free ranging Alabama whitetails from the deep south (probably less than 100 miles from Florida). William Lyon done good... REAL good. It couldn't happen to a nicer young man. I'm proud of him. BW
Send them to me. I'll post them for you Barry.

Well obviously the problem is he's not getting up early enough to get his stand set before the deer move through.
Send him my way and I'll teach him to be in place and fast asleep when the bruisers pass by; just as I do.
Very nice. :archer:

I'm totally gobsmacked and flummoxed! I cannot believe that one half of the detective duo that strikes consummate terror into the hearts of the country's craftiest old whitetails is stymied by the nuances of picture posting. Unca Barry, if you take me along to one of your hotspots I promise to have you posting those pics in no time, LOL!
P.S. Great job and great deer. With my luck I'd have been covered in hoof prints and left for dead!

Congrats William - Incredible AL Bucks. I used to hunts Lowndes Co but haven't been down in a few years. I better change things up!
Thanks for sharing Barry.
Those two bucks sure didn't want that young feller to get to his "hotspot" did they? Congratulations on those fine deer!
Hi all, sorry for the delay joining in. Words can't explain how awesome my hunts were!! I wish everyone here could experience having a deer of this caliber standing face to face at 8 steps!! I dont know which one of us had the most fear in his eyes! Ha. Fortunately for me he put his head down just before he saw me. It gave me the perfect opportunity to draw my Tall Tines just before our eyes met. I think I released a split second before he whirled. The second buck was 5 yds from the base of my tree. He is 6.5-7.5 yrs old with a 20.5" inside spread.
I live in AL but actually was hunting on the MS River. I failed to give Barry my location in the email I sent him. Sorry UB. We were an hr or so north of Memphis and the bucks were chasing hard!! Magical week to be in the woods!
Thank you Barry for planting the seed approx 25 yrs ago, Brian for making an excellent bow, and mostly thank you Lord for making whitetails and the opportunity to spend time admiring and enjoying Your great outdoors!!!
Congrats on 2 awesome bucks!
Awesome.... Those are two bucks to be proud of no matter what part of the country they came from.
