Title: Spider Osage
Post by: tippit on August 17, 2007, 12:40:00 PM
I'm off to Montana tomorrow morning.  Not to hunt but taking my family to a ranch just a few miles from Doug Campbell.  I'm planning on spending a day with Doug...pre-scouting for next years St Judes Elk Hunt.  At least that's my excuse to sneak away from the dude ranch   ;)

Anyway I decided to take a few knives for the master to critique.  Just finished up a knotty osage handle one from a tracing of JC's knife that Doug made.  The osage from 4runr has a beautiful spider knot...Doc

That's a dandy looking knife doc. I like the shape of that blade.

That half circle spot between blade and handle is the perfect thing for a thumb pusher when unzipping critters and a finger guard when dressing and skinning

I also like how skiny those osage handles are. Always felt the others were kinda wide, of course was only judging by pictures and not having one in hand.

I think that's your best one yet.

Say hey to Doug for me while yoou're out there in beautiful Montana.

Doc,
Those are some nice looking knifes.
 :notworthy:
You might want to bring respirator with ya; the smoke from the fires in this area are making the air tough on the lungs.

Walt

P.S.  You ain't fooling anybody; we all know you are really using the dude ranch as an excuse to scope out the terrain for your elk hunt next year.

What are you using to put the hollow grind on the blades?  Do you have a jig made for a grinder?  If so, pics please.
Your grind looks so nice and even, to compliment the rest of your work!
