Title: Ben Pearson String Length?
Post by: edge2009 on November 30, 2012, 11:59:00 AM
Hey folks!

Hope everyone had a great thanksgiving day/weekend. I didn't get to see family but I was invited by our local Pastor for lunch since I was on shift. Great food, great people, I was blessed.

I need some help on string length for a bow I'm receiving, Its my first recurve as some of you know. Its a 58" bow, so I'm assuming 54" string???

Its Ben Pearson Mustang 45#@28" if that helps?

Thanks for your help guys, Got to get one for the bow so I can start shooting!

God Bless

54"-54.5", depending on how it's measured (loose o under tension per AMO specs) and how you like it tuned.

I've always heard 4" shorter than the bows length. I guess you could get it in and play with the brace height. The worst that could happen is you would have to order another string, never hurts to have extras.

Depends on the bow.  The "old rule of thumb" says 3" shorter for a longbow, 4" shorter for a recurve.  AMO says 3" shorter, period.  Reality says it depends on the bow and how you like it tuned.  I've seen recurves get strings from 2.5" to 6" shorter, longbows from 1.5" to 4" shorter.

Most of the old Pearson bows go 3.5" to 4" shorter than the bow length, measured under tension.

Awesome, thanks guys! I appreciate it... I'll play it safe with 4".
