In anticipation of the arrival of my Tall Tines recurve I need some advice for arrow and broadhead selection.
The bow is a 60" #52@28". I have a small draw length. With a compound my draw length is 27". I prefer carbon arrows and a 3 blade head, though I understand that stickbows are much different and require different variations of equipment selection.My desired set-up is for whitetails and black bear. Eventually I would like to be able to achieve acceptable performance up to 20/25 yards. Although closer is always better :)
So what would your selections be?
I know nothing about carbon arrows, but if you want a 3 blade head, VPA is the one. Many weights to go with many set-ups, and both screw in and glue on available. You won't find a better 3 blade head.
Definately go with the VPA's best built 3 blades period!. It is hard to guess what shaft would work best for you without knowing your true draw length though.

And sharp broad head will work. I like shooting 2 blades. Magnus sto Zwickeys grizzlys I have all my arrows tipped with them.
mb bowman, whilst there is a lot more to it, if you want to use carbon, you would probably start with 3555s in gold tip, DONT cut them, leave them long, shoot them a while. when you decide broad head weight, get yourself some field points of the same weight and then start thinking about cutting.

I can give you my 2 cents in regards to my experiences and hope it helps you out a bit:
First, wood arrows help make up the very essence of trad archery....that being said, I wouldnt start with them necessarily if I were you! Only because I'd want to eliminate whatever variables I could with my ammunition....and I believe this can be done with carbon more easily than wood. You have to work out your form, establish it....establish consistant anchor, grip exc....get to shooting with some sort of consistancy and accuracy....figure out the tuning process. Carbon will help make this easier for you. Once you start to figure things out a little, make observations for yourself and gain knowledge from the experienced trad archers, you are ready to try your hand at some properly made wood arrows!!! Wood arrows made properly, can take alot! As was mentioned above, the Gold Tip 3555 would be an excellent choice (I shoot these myself) Every 1/4 you cut off that shaft can make a world of difference....so cut carefully! Just guessing, but I'd say if you shoot that 3555 at 30 inches with 200 to 225 grains of total point weight, you could be where you need to be!
As for broadheads....others have told you all you need to know for the 3 blade....VPA! My second choice would be the Woodsman Elite. For 2 blades, I have used the STOS, Simmons and ACE and I like them all. All sharpen well, all do what they are meant to do. Get them VERY VERY sharp!
what is your actual draw length and relate that to the weight at your actual draw and that should be in mid 40s or so which is nothing wrong as if your 27" with a compound then in 95% of the time your draw would be 1 to 1 1/2" less because where your stance and draw and shoulder alignment would be different from the compound and my .02 would be get a broadhead that is stream line like a woodsman or vpa and snuffer is a good broadhead it is wider and you might end up liking a 2 blade design like a simmons landshark (HUGE HOLE) but I wouldnt worry about the broadhead until you get your arrow spine and point weight dialed in..I would recomend a .600 spine from easton or .90 from CE with a 175point weight to start and that way you would have a good weight and idea which way to go ...get a test kit from 3 rivers and save some money before jumping in getting arrows that dont work...enjoy that Tall Tine..they are sweet
