HI all
Just purchased this second hand 2004 El Lobo made by Jack B Harrison. Apparently this was his personal bow and is featured in his book! I will endeavour to take better pics when it arrives.

Hope you like it and interested to hear from other Harrison owners!
Hey Buranurra, I too have a Harrison HSS TD 58#
It has ebony riser with dall sheep overlays and shoots great.I think you and I may be the only Harrison owners in W.A.
Shoot me another message sometime and maybe we could check each others bows out.
Cheers Arrowang-----
Nice bow, seen it advertised, too heavy for me.

Hi Arrowang, sounds great, I honestly didn't think there would be many in Oz let alone WA!!!
I will flick you a message when she arrives.

Jason,
Not an El Lobo, it is a Black Wolf.

Cool Black Wolf it is - I was just confused over the sizes - either way I am looking forward to the bow.
Thanks again
Jase
Jason, that used to be my bow, you will be very happy with it.
... now I am worried that two people wanted to sell it? :)
No, I have another one of his bows, nothing to worry about. I sent you a pm

Thanks very much - messages must have crossed over. I am really looking forward to this piece of functional art! :)
Selling it has nothing to do with the bow, all of Jacks bows are top of the line, believe me if I could control my shot with a longbow as well as I do with my recurves, this bow would never have left my home.

All good mate - I am just thankful that you prefer recurves ! :D
I have shot this bow you will not be disappointed.
Enjoy it!
Excellent!
What sort of string do you guys recommend for it? I was thinking an 8 strand SBD, but read somewhere that Mr Harrison doesn't recommend flemish twist.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Cheers

Nice looking bow.
You are correct Jase, Jack recommends D97 endless strings on his bows. The string on it is in good shape.
Probably won't matter since the bow has changed hands...but in his warranty (re-stated in his book) he voids the warranty if you use a flemish string, or a dacron string.
Okay cool, thanks for the info Danny and LBR. Interesting that my Tolke Whip also came with endless loops. What would be recommendations for future best quality replacements?
Many thanks
Jase
I would look at LBR's strings. He makes very good custom strings, both endless and flemish and he is a long time sponser on TG.
"Probably won't matter since the bow has changed hands...but in his warranty (re-stated in his book) he voids the warranty if you use a flemish string, or a dacron string."
Anyone know why?
Why there would not be a warranty? One, Jack retired and two the bow is more than a few years old.
Did you have it listed on another web site Danny? I would have loved to add this one to my other Harrisons.
Whenever I see a harrison bow I feel like I should stand or remove my hat out of respect. They are such amazing bows. Enjoy.
Oh yeah, more pics would be awesome. Would love to see it braced and unstrung. ;)
wow, that bow is amazing!
THanks for the kind comments. I will take pics when it arrives.
Cheers

Since I've not read his book why would dacron or flemish not be recommended?
Rusty
Nice bow incidentally
Ditto. I've never heard of a warranty being voided for using flemish vs. endless, or dacron instead of FF. For the latter it's usually the other way around, since dacron is easier on bow tips than is FF. :dunno:
Good questions - I hope some more people will comment on this. Leo?
Since I'm a "string nerd" (what some friends call me), I had the same questions. I tried contacting Mr. Harrison years ago...no reply. I tried contacting someone who said he was a dealer. He denied the information was present in any warranty he'd seen and refused to discuss it. Obviously I got nowhere.
There's no reason in the book (that I've seen--I have a copy) for voiding the warranty over a dacron or flemish string.
He gives a few reasons for preferring endless--he says he got 8-10 fps more with endless, that he got more hand shock with flemish, and that a flemish stretched more. My experience is only the latter is true, and then to a low degree if made properly.
He even throws in a dig on flemish strings and those who use them:
"Finally, as a point of trivial history, it became vogue to shoot Flemish-twist bowstrings as a desparate attempt for some over-zealous apologists to return to 'tradition' when compound bows came into being." pg. 414
He then illustrates how he makes an endless string, but that's as far as it goes--no reasons for the warranty being void.
It's been my experience over the years that some well-known bowyers don't understand strings and string materials all that well, and some base their warranty on total misunderstandings. I've tried discussing it with a few of them--didn't do any good.
I can say with full confidence that you won't damage your bow with a (properly made) flemish string. Nothing wrong with preferring and endless string--I have both on different bows, and I make both. I prefer one of the "Fast Flight" materials over dacron, but on my older bows I only use dacron.
If anyone gets more information on why he voids the warranty if you use flemish or dacron, I'd sure be interested in hearing the explanation behind it.
Chad
