Title: Broadhead Help
Post by: Coach Jones on November 25, 2012, 10:39:00 PM
First thanks for all the help.  I have been asking alot of questions on here and I am learning a ton.  I got my bow tuned the way I like it with a 200 grain field point.  So what I decided I would like to do is shoot a 125 grain glue on broadhead mounted on a 75 grain adapter to equal my field point weight.  What broadhead do you like?  I would prefer something that I could sharpen with my accusharp and a probably a 2 blade head.   What broadhead do you recommend and do you like this set up I am leaning towards?

Current favorite is the Stos 130 gr.  Runner up is the Magnus II 125 gr.  That ranking is based only on how they look on a finished arrow.  I have no complaints on the durability or lethality of either and have stocked up on both.  They blow through deer and are easy to sharpen.

I stocked up because it has been my experience that when you find something you really like it either gets discontinued or they change the design.

I would do a Simmons tigershark.  Unbelievable bloodtrails and awesome flight. They are 135 grains so you would end up a tad heavier but if you can notice ten grains different you are a much better shot than me.

Ace Super Express is a 200 grain head. Good heads if you can find them; I just got the last dozen from Rocky Mt. Specialties; they said they didn't know if they could get more.

Kodak (griz) 200 gr.  why use an unnecessary 75 gr adapter? Using alum or carbon?   If so just go for the light ones. More of a challenge to learn to sharpen than double bevel, but a great head.

You could just buy some Simmons safari heads... They are 205 grains and since they are screw ins you don't need to mess around with adapters. Or you could get some screw in tree sharks that weigh 190 grains. The Simmons heads will sharpen with no trouble using your accusharp and they are a great product. Honestly there are a ton of great two blade broad heads out there and it is just a matter of picking one YOU like, getting it sharp, and placing it where it counts.

I would go with either a zwickey eskimo, or a Grizzly 120 grain for a glue on with the 75 grain adaptor. My personal vote would go with the VPA penetrator though for a two blade. The heads are indestructible and will blow straight through anything you shoot with them.

If you are sticking with a 2-blade, Magnus or Zwickey 125 with the 75 grain adaptor would work fine... easily sharpened with your Accusharp.

I like the Bob's idea though... Wensel Woodsman or Snuffer 125 with the 75 grain adaptor mades for a wicked head too.  Took quite a few critters with those two combinations over the years!

these are 15 grains heavy, but fly very very well. Im sure you could put them on a diet by grinding them down a tiny bit. 15 grains is only one gram (1/32oz)
