I'm looking into a short recurve, I need somethign I can pretty much buy soon either used or new,,, I found the super mag 48 and wondering if anyone can tell me about it,, my favorite weight is 50@27 so I'm wondering do the current NEW bear bows hit the weight right on or is it high or low because I'd have to order for 28" so I'm thinkiing about a 55@28 bow. I was also thinking about the kodiak Mag at 52" so let me know your thoughts.. thanks for any opinions.

My kodiak mag is my go to hunting bow.awesome little bows.fast, quiet, accurate and just a fun little bow to shoot. The only change i made on mine was putting a new fast flight string on it.Check out Big Jim's website.he has some.

is it quiet for you, whats arrow weight? my biggest concern is are they noisy.

I have a super mag 48 thats 43# at 28.I put hush puppies and bow hush silencers on it and it is quit.It is a real shooter out to my effective range of 20 yds. I shoot 55/75 at 29" with 225 wieght up front, four 5" fletch (75-105) they fly like darts with both 130grain grizzly's and 125 grain zwickys. I have not hunted with this bow yet as I just got it in sept. My hunting buddy shot it and fell in love with it,So we are looking for one for him as well. You will like this bow. Mine is a 1969. hope this helps. Don

I have Two. Great shooters !! You can make your own puffs for the string out of wool yarn. They're better than anything you buy in the store. Quietens
any bow ! Good luck.

You should really try shooting one - the grip is not for everyone. I find the K-mag much more comfortable and really not that much longer.

K-mag are very quiet.I shoot a 480 grain arrow out of mine 50@28".It's as quiet as most longbows i have shot.I do recommend changing out the factory string when you get it.My string is made of excel.I also like D97 string mat.Never shot the 48 but the kmag grip is very comfortable to me.I can set this bow down for 2-3 months or longer and still shoot great with it.

I was never impressed by the performance of the 48" Super Magnum. Just not very spunky in my opinion.
The 52" Magnum might be a better choice and is plenty short.

I love the KMag, I've got a '71 that pulls 48#@29" and I found some vintage Cravotti Bros shafts that it slings with accuracy and authority.

Hmm,, thank you for the posts.. I might go for the Kmag and only because after thinking about it I might not want to go too short right out of the gate,, 52" isn't bad compared to my shortest bows which are 60"... how about this,, are the new ones better or worse than the vintage Kmags?

I think they are all good.bought a new 1 because Big Jim had them on sale last year for 280.00

The super mag 48 is a super bow! It small, short and can be shot in close quarters (including you basement in the winter). I own K-mags and would love own a black Phenolic
