Here's Just A Few of the Positive Reviews of Longbow!
Traditional Bowhunter Magazine (David Tetzlaff): "Campbell has always been about the method of the hunt, not the outcome. ... At it's core, Longbow is a book about life and how one man copes with both the unpredictable tragedies and the self-inflicted ... when love is lost and found, the unconditional trust of a child is tested ... and about how a man should live, and more importantly, be remembered."
E. Donnall Thomas Jr: "Campbell ... gives the bows, the animals, and their pursuit the due they deserve, [but] the themes he explores with greatest passion are more complex: divorce, marriage, cancer, family, despair, redemption. ... Campbell [has] a sure-footed and thoughtful prose style that would distinguish his work from the field no matter what the topic of the chapter."
Gene Wensel: "[Campbell] knows the difference between looking and seeing. To write well is rare, but Campbell writes vividly about his outdoor passions, which is rarer still. This book is your ticket to adventure."
Quote from Longbow: A hunting Life: "Adventure and excitement have their place, to be sure. I can't chase anything with a longbow and not feel a thrill. But thrills need perspective. The how and why of hunting is more important than the what, or the where, or with whom. I have tried to bring that perspective to these pages along with excitement. The perspective that in hunting - as in life - the joy is in the journey. The outcome is an afterthought." We hope you find the book a worthwhile addition to your traditional library. Come see us on Facebook! Best, Jay and Karen Campbell.

Thanks for all of the kind words! We would love to hear from everyone about the book, what you liked and didn't, as we roll it out. This picture is of Karen with her buff, from the chapter "Prescription Buffalo". She took this with a 70# O.L. Adcock bow, and one 1020 grain arrow. Karen and I sign and personally endorse every book purchased from www.campbellsquest.com. (http://www.campbellsquest.com.) Best, Jay and Karen Campbell

I've always enjoyed your writings, and have been looking forward to the book - this gave me the motivation to finally get it ordered!
Longbow is a great book. Once I started it I was unable to put it down till I finished it. I wrote a review on the book at Simply Traditional if you are interested.
http://www.simplytraditional.net/2012/09/25/book-review-longbow-a-hunting-life-by-jay-campbell/
You won't regret picking up a copy!
Just finished the book this past week. Definately a book to read! I laughed, I cried, I went along on the adventure! When's the next book comming out?
I was both honored and terrified when Don Thomas asked me to write the review of Longbow for TBM. If I ever had to get something right, this was it. Longbow is a critically important read for the hunting archer who takes afield more than the desire for a bloodtrail and takes home much more than meat and antlers.
Jay has a Zen like approach to everything he does from boating to bowhunting to his amazing prowess behind the camera lens. And this is evident in every chapter of the book.
And when you finish Longbow-and I defy you to put it down-please share it with your non-hunting family and friends. You will be doing our sport a favor, trust me.
David Tetzlaff
Jay has a great way of weaving life into hunting, and is a gifted writer. It's a good book, and fine addition to any bowhunters library. He's a pretty decent musician as well! Can't sing though...
Wow, what kind words, and a great reaction to the book! The first thing I need to do is direct everyone to Gene and Barry Wensel's site and the GREAT holiday sale they are having on Classics like Primal Dreams, Buckskin and Bone, and Come November! Gene has been a great mentor to me for almost 20 years now. Here's their site - go check it out! Brothers of the Bow (http://www.brothersofthebow.com/)
The picture is of writer, guide and bowhunter Jay Massey, with me on the Moose John River just before he passed. That chapter in the book is "Last Run Down the Moose John". Jay also was a mentor for me very early on, as was (and is) Don Thomas, and Dan Quillian before he passed. There are also chapters about our time with Don and Dan.
Much of the adventure in the book comes from me being stupid, I have to admit - running rivers in Alaska without the right gear, climbing mountains in Hawaii without enough water, getting caught in mountain storms, lost in swamps, the list goes on. Others may be able to learn from my mistakes, as I do try to find the humor and meaning in my time in the woods, even when it goes badly. I'm not good at being outdoors and hunting - I just like it too much to quit.
Hey, also check out Mark Baker's new book!
Thanks to everyone for the interest. The book is $14.99 at campbellsquest.com (http://www.campbellsquest.com) In the morning we will have shipped all the weekend orders of signed and personalized books by Karen and me. Best, Jay and Karen Campbell

I am very fortunate to have hunted with Jay, Mark Baker and Don Thomas and consider them all friends. And I learned alot from them all....(and Mark is right about Jay's singing. )You will enjoy Jay's writing and I highly reccommend you read it.
I just finished this book, and it is a great read. I think i finshed it in two sittings! Lots of great stories from someone who can really captivate a reader with his writing style. The stories are not about getting animals or technique (though there is some of that) but about the mistakes, disapointments, highlights, and adventures that hunting brings to us all and to our lives. I really liked this one.
Thank you
I also finshed the book a week ago. Really enjoyed it!!! Thank you.
My grandson Gage gave me the book "Longbow-a hunting life" he won at the TBOF spring shoot. I enjoyed it very much, as I have come to enjoy just about everything Jay writes these days. I will pass the book on so others might enjoy the adventures also. Thanks Jay!
OK bought two...one for me one for loaning :)
ttt for my buddy Jay.
This is a great book. Jay is one of those guys who could write a four page story about killing a squirrel in his back yard, and it would be a great read. He knows how to put the emotions of the hunt on the page as well as any writer I have ever read.
Thanks for making us aware of your book Mr. Campbell! I will order a copy for myself. Mr. Thomas made us aware of your story/journey through his writings. Being a fan of his...I made it a point to read about you and to begin reading what you wrote. Your approach to hunting and life is admirable! I wish you and your lovely wife many wonderful years together celebrating life and the great outdoors! Thanks for sharing your written words with us!!
Sincerely,
Kevin
The website was easy to use. I've got mine ordered via PayPal. Looking forward to receiving my copy in the mail :)

Thank you everyone!! the books are piling up near Karen's computer to ship out ASAP once we both sign them! Please continue to let us know what you like and don't! here's a picture of Karen with a great 65# Hummingbird custom bow, her last bow before stepping up to the 70# OL Adcock for buffalo. The hummingbird was then a gift to the Reverend Scotty Bennett in Fairbanks, our river running and hunting partner, who just took it to Africa! Again, thank you all for the kind words. - Jay and Karen
Ah...yet another picture of a lovely supermodel shooting a higher poundage bow than me... :archer2:

Wow! The response has been tremendous. We shipped about 60 books in the last week, and are beginning to run out! Had to order another printing. Still on sale for $14.99! As of this morning, every order has been signed, endorsed, and shipped. :clapper: Thank you from Karen and me. Please continue to tell us what you like and don't as we are hard at work on the next book, a novel, "Archer's Paradox." Picture is from the story "Red Sky at Night" in the book, about Karen's late night hunt and swamp search for this Central Florida Pig.
If you are from the Midwest, Dan Small has written a great review of Longbow for the Outdoor News Holiday Book buying guide.
Here's Dan Small's review: "Jay Campbell has been a musician, a cop, a paramedic, a firefighter, and a physician's assistant. A practicing attorney, he directs organ procurement and transplant organizations throughout the U.S.
He has hunted with a longbow since the age of nine and over the past decade has pursued big game across several continents. In Longbow: A Hunting Life, Campbell recalls his beginnings as a hunter, how he left the sport and then rediscovered it when he life was coming unraveled:
"At the age of fifty, I quit my job and left my home. I took my longbow and my books and not much more. Friends said I had lost my senses. I might have. But the home fires had died and my life had to change. I moved to the mountains. I took back my senses. I started over."
This remarkable book reveals Campbell's deepest thoughts about life, family and the reasons he has hunted everything from wild hogs and alligators to Asian water buffalo. Months after successful cancer surgery, he accompanies his wife Karen on a grueling hunt in Australia as she becomes the first known woman to take a water buffalo with a longbow. He also reconnects with his youngest son Cody, who learns to love hunting wild hogs: "Hunting returned my son to me. It let us speak without struggling over words."
This book will touch any hunter's heart. Buy it and read it.

Thanks for the interest and support of Longbow: A Hunting Life! Yesterday we ranked #15 on Amazon of all Archery books! :clapper: Amazon or www.campbellsquest.com (http://www.campbellsquest.com) or 3 Rivers are good places to find the book. At www.campbellsquest.com (http://www.campbellsquest.com) its on sale for $14.99 and Karen and I sign and endorse all the copies. Dan Small at Wisconsin Outdoor News just wrote a great review for their Holiday book buying guide, in part: "This book will will touch any hunter's heart. Buy it and read it." There's another great review in this month's Traditional Bowhunter Magazine, too. I saw a question about How Karen handles a 70# bow - the picture may help answer that. :-) Karen is a 3d degree black belt in Shotokon. When she decided to build up to a bow big enough to take buffalo, she began shooting 150-200 arrows a day, building up from a 35# bow to the 70# in a little more than a year. She became the only woman we are aware of to take a water buffalo with a longbow. That journey is in the book in "Prescription: Buffalo", as are many others. Best, Jay
I just got my book this morning........i can not put it down....How good is that???.....i am a posterchild for ADD................congrats Karen and Jay.

I just ordered a paper copy, and am looking forward to reading it. Thanks!
Just finished my copy....
Pros...Very well written...easy to read...interesting....heart felt....down to earth..
Cons....because the stories are so well written and easy to read...you may pour through the book and be finished in no time...leaving you dissappointed that the "ride" is over too quickly :) LOL!!! All books should leave you feeling like that!
BTW...I'm not a big fiction reader...but the first chapter of your pending novel has me hooked!! Please finish and publish that booger! :)
