I don't really know how it happened but I just don't have the drive anymore to buy or trade for another bow. I guess I'm either satisfied or just tired of it all. I think we all at some point get caught up in the hype, how magically a new bow is going to make our shooting improve or improve our odds at taking game. I guess maybe I've finally come to accept things as they are, so I might as well enjoy what I have and make the best of it.

Peter ,You must be fairly young,You'll grow into it! LOL I still like differant bows, but I don't believe they'll make me a better shot.Just like the Workmanship of the great Bowyers out there today.I am though been more satisfied with what I've got.
-
Me too Steve....has nothing to do with improving my ability. I am just bedazzled by the custom work out there and love to see that crzay grained piece of wood that has been hiding in a tree for 100 years - unveiled into an archery treasure.
I have bows I reach for without thinking. They are not my prettiest or biggest "name" bow.
But I love em all, Id swim in them if I could.
Im a sick man.
-
I too am a sick man....but I'm alright with that!
-
I am just trying to do my part to stimulate the economy.
-
Longstick, I am about at the point at which you have arrived. It's really kind of nice to be satisfied with what you have and be able to direct some funds to other aspects of the sport. You can get some meat stuff with all the money a new bow costs you! :biglaugh:
-
I'm at the magic number of ten (10) bows... That's enough for me... I Think... Maybe... :dunno: Whatever!
... mike ...
-
David said it best...not about shooting better but just when you think you have seen the sickest craziest piece of bocote or cocobolo with the nicest overlays....someone gets one better!! I went for 8 yrs with the same two bows and now am looking for something different! Its like starting all over again....way fun!
-
Me too, I'm done, well got two more being built, yeah right, I'm done. :bigsmyl: :help: :banghead:    :dunno: :dunno:
-
Now why did that double post? :dunno: :dunno:
-
I'm afraid to start counting bows!

I have done a bit of the buy and even littler of the sell. I think I am done now. I have bows at all the draw weights I could possibly need, and I love them all. I can't see adding more. I have only shot one (my first) since June. I want to take an animal with it this year. I would love to shoot some of the others, but I don't want to mess up my shooting by switching around. I love the beauty and variations in bows, but I am so happy with the ones I have I can't see having any more that I just let sit. At least that is my rationele now, who knows what will happen if I get the itch again.
-
I have a bunch.....narrowing down to a few that I just really like......and then it happens, a bow I have always wanted shows up on the classifieds at my specs at less than half price. I have fun wheeling and dealing.......and then there's the ILF stuff :readit:
-
I'm down with the sickness. :help: I need another bow. You know its bad when you think about which bang stick you could sell to buy another bow.
-
My recurve that my grandfather handed down to me snapped a limb :banghead: , I am using a borrowed longbow until hunting season is up. I am trying to get $ saved up for a nice Tall Tines but am having a little trouble finding a second job that would be worth my time!
-
Longstik64, You havent lost it, youve found it! All of the buying swapping and trading can never replace the benefits of dedication.
Acquiring a different bow every few months will never lead to instant success, but dedication will.
If you have found a bow that suits you, stick with it and "learn it", for it will become an extension of youself and the benefits will far outweigh the desire for another bow.
-
I still have the gotta have the new bow addiction, but for some reason lost the hunter mode this year. :dunno:
Oh well it will be back hopefully next spring.
-
You know what they say: "Beware the Man that Owns and Shoots Only One Bow!"
I havent lost IT , my Budget says "STOP 'IT'"!! :biglaugh:
-
I'm kind of that way too. I own several bows, but shoot only one. I have found MY bow and don't care if I ever have another. I DREAD the day that something bad happens to MY bow and I have to switch to another (Geez, I hope that never happens).
I am good friends with my bowyer and have bought lots of bows from him. A while back we were talking and I told him
"Bob, you meeses up pretty bad by building me this bow"
He looked at me kind of wierd like and said "WHY?".
I looked back at him and said
"How many bows have I bought from you since I got this one?" (the answer is zero because I love my current bow so much).

back when I decided to start bowhunting again Ii had one bow. About two 3 weeks before opening day of bowseason a limb gave way...I had no back up! Got on the phone with John Fazio and he had a bow at my house in a week. The first thing I did was go buy a "backup" bow after that. I have since owned as many as 20. I go through phases. This past year was the "longbow phase (went form zero to 3 liberties, a GW Flannegan, a Hill WS, traded one liberty for another Hill and lent out one to a buddy of mine (he has a recurve I want so we may swap) But after all that I'm back to the Ballistick. That bow just fits. That beign said, got notification that my Silvertip is at the Post office!!
-
Went thru a phase of buy buy buy. But I've got a little Shrew that the present time that I'm happy with!
-
Hi nice to meet you Randy, I've been for about a year, since i got my Tall Tines.
You are right Longbow917, there are so many great bows out there. For traditional archery I believe we are living in the best times.
-
I believe i'm on the opposite end of the spectrum. . . got my first longbow last year. . . got my first trad deer on veterans day this year. . .
My name is Eric, and I believe i'm addicted.
-
I have noe desire to buy bows however one showed up Friday. I was wayyy to cool of a bow to pass up. The plus side is its one that I always wanted and I know that will never be built again.
Aside from that, I am not looking for bows however I like looking at the pictures on the classifieds. I also have a hard time walking past an old bow like Bear, Pearson, Shakespeare or Browning.... without picking it up and trying to convince myself not to buy it :help:
-
Danny, I will quote Donald directly- "yea right you are done... I don't believe it!"

I like bows...
-
I sent 5 off today for a consignment sale. I still have 6 and may sell 4 or 5 of those, too.
-
A bit timely as I too have "one in the mail" and two builds after that. This has gotten crazy if not completely out of hand! I got sick of trying the pass arounds in the Classifieds and have almost exclusively gone with new builds now. I have a Nate Steele Expi Hunter that for over a year has been my lights out shooter and then Kirk Lavender made me a carbon Flatliner that has all same manners, but with speed closer to a compound. I'm at a lost on what to think of this situation. I'm not selling my Bama, but Kirk bow is seeing all my time lately.
Is this the evolution of trad for most. I really don't think it's taking away from shooting abilities, but it's getting hard to explain the bows on the wall not being used...
Jack Kempf Trophy Hunter is in the mail and Eaglewing Cabon LB after that. Does this ever end???

I've never really been much on buying new bows or selling others. I've got all the bows I'll ever need. I am one of those people that finds what works for them and sticks with it. I am just glad I started my custom bow journey with Tomahawks though because otherwise I might have spent a lot of money on bows that weren't quite what I was looking for.
-
I intend to buy one more bow for myself, and I'm currently saving for it bit by bit, savoring the anticipation. My first bow (the one I'm using now) I bought intentionally as a transition back into trad archery, with the idea of going up in wait about 5 years after starting.
I don't have the disposable funds to buy a lot of bows anyway, but even if I did, I don't think I would. I'm not a collector...besides, I can just live vicariously through the guys with cool collections here on TradGang.
