It's getting to the point where I am wanting to put some venison in the freezer. This evening I planned to do just that given the opportunity.
I did have a couple of small bucks pass through but they were young and had potential if allowed to grow, at least I thought that was the case. So, walk they did.
Right at dark I heard a bunch of critters moving through the woods and they were coming my way.. I had a pretty good idea about what was about to happen.
Yesterday I grabbed my Vixen off the rack and shot it some. It's lighter than the other bows I'm shooting this year but it does fling an arrow with darn good speed. It's an all yew bow except for the riser which is rosewood. It's the lightest in the hand bow I had, truly a featherweight. The bow is 66" long and 50lbs at 28"..
By the time the pigs came filtering through I had the bow in hand. One of them got in the right spot and I released the arrow. It hit an inch or two low, right at the "elbow" and I heard it hit bone. However I saw good penetration and the pig almost froze and then squealed and moved off. From it's reaction I knew I had hit the heart.
Sure enough the Grizzly Kodiak skewered the pigs heart, the blood trail was awesome and short..

Pat, another great hog! Congratulations. I am glad that you mention the bow and broadhead that you are using, but whether it is a Hill or Mohawk you sure do put down some fine hogs. Hope you hit some venison soon.

Congrats and best wishes from Germany.
Interesting for me to know as hunting in Germany is how do you deal with the potential infestation of thrichinae?
Here in Germany meat/venison which is intended to be eaten by human beings and may potentially be infested by trichinaes ( wild boar, hog, badger) must be tested by a veterinarian. That means every slaughtered hog or killed wild boar must be tested.
Good shooting Pat. Your deadly no mater what bow is in your hands.RC

Great shooting again Pat. I always enjoy your stories about putting the smack down on another Big Pig. I hope the right Buck comes by you so we can all enjoy the story and pictures. Take care and shoot straight.
Pat, somehow I missed this post, not sure how.
Man, you otta be on TV, "pork killers" or something like that. Another great hog and the Vixen is sure a great bow. I have found myself shooting mine a lot more often lately. Even though mine is lower poundage, I am sure it will get the job done.
Super job buddy, keep it up!
