Title: Vintage Archery, a GREAT sponsor
Post by: Roger Norris on November 19, 2012, 04:54:00 PM
Hey All....I wanted to give some credit to a great company. Bear with me....

This year I decided to investigate and experiment with the whole Ashby theory...I don't want to get into a debate on the subject, but I observed less than perfect penetration with my current set up, especially when using bows down around 50#.

I have spoke with Joe a few times at Compton, and I alwys liked him. This past year I was walking by, and he good naturedly said, "Hey Roger, why aren't you shooting my broadheads?"

It led to a short conversation, but it stuck with me, favorably. So when my penetration doubts crept in, I sent Joe an email asking for his opinion on a few things. From there, I ordered some broadheds to play with. The arrived RIGHT NOW...I think I ordered on Saturday and had them on Tuesday morning.

I then ordered some sharpening stuff..BLAM! 2 day delivery.

My arrows are flying great, the broadheads are perfectly matched to the field points, and they are SOOOOO easy to keep sharp. All I need now is a willing deer! The quality of these broadheads is superb. Pricey enough that I won't be flinging them at grouse and porcupines, but absolutely worth the money.

Thanks Joe, great work!

I have never talked to Joe but they sure make a great head!

So what's your hunting arrow set up for your 50# bow? I shoot the same weight and I am thinking of trying carbons again, been shooting XX75's for years now.

Jason...I have given up on lighter bows (for now). My Lil Favorite and JavaMan Duo Flex are both 57#. They shoot an Axis 400 shaft, cut at 28.5", and a 225 TuffHead with the 75 grain steel insert perfectly. I have played with a %!# Tanjavur and 50# Shrew with the same head, but an Axis 500 shaft, they fly great.

Joe also developed another neat little product you can see at Vintage Archery.... the Bowtote.

I don't use it on every hunt, but when I need to carry "stuff" on a hunt, it is a great way to transport my bow.  Check it out sometime.
