Well this past saturday was opening morning for late season archery deer here in western oregon. I haven't hunted for a couple years and the past few months I have been drooling at the chance to get back out.
The morning started with me laying in bed checking the clock ever 15min to see if it was about time to get up yet or not. 4:30 came and I was loading up and heading up to the higher elevations to put some miles on my boots.
After driving up to the road I wanted to be on and seeing a road closed sign I though "no way" this is a big loop road and I used to hunt this area often never having it be shut for anything other then to much snow. So I was stubborn and kept driving up the road... A few miles up I came up to a huge road slide with boulders larger then my rig. At this time I was supper bummed! I had not even thought of a back up plan for that hunt and wasn't sure where to go now...
I ended up coming back down in elevation a ways until I just decided to hunt some random spots I have never been. I spent the next couple hours glassing for any deer activity without seeing a thing. Spirts where low at this point...
But then I look over and see a nice doe that seemed on edge. I quickly made a sneak up on her to about 50 yards... Then bam this little fork by 3 with eye gaurds shows up! He was oblivious to my where abouts. I knew he saw me but he seemed not to care. I pwalked back and snuck around to get Between the doe and little buck. About the same time I get set and comfortable here he comes on the run. He stops right above me quartered towards me at 17-20 yards or so. This country was steep!
I picked my spot and let it fly... Prefect hit! Death kick and be comes running down straight at me! I had to jump back to keep from getting ran over. He made it down the hill about 40 - 60 yards and that was all she wrote!
It was a great hunt... To short but a wonderful time none the less.
Bow was a 1965 Kodiak 50#, 2016 arrow with a 145 stos BH

Awsome buck.
Well done Sir !
Very nice! I had hoped to make a special trip down to where I grew up in the Rogue Valley with Kirk but as is normal everything went south. I will be going to down to have Thanksgiving with my parents down there and I plan to try and hunt some family land, it's 110acres in the middle of a 20000 acre ranch so it never gets hunted. I'm hoping to score in a couple days but the time will definitely be limited. Congratulations again on a some tasty venison!
