West of Denver.

Seriouosly, there is plenty of great hunting for both elk and mule deer in Colorado.  Lots of factors will enter into narrowing it down, the first of which is your budget. Also your hopes and dreams of what type of hunting you want to do.  Guided or do it yourself?  Motel, truck camp, or backpack?
Hunting in the mountains can be physically demanding.  How good of shape are you in or could you reasonably expect to get in before a hunt?  If you are overweight and out of shape and go to a pristine high quality elk area at 12,000 feet, you are bound to have a miserable time.
Like I said, lots of factors to consider before deciding where to go.

Also, if you're planning to hunt this year, you are too late for muleys. There are no over the counter deer tags sold anymore. Best bet is to contact the Colorado Division of Wildlife website and access the wealth of info there, then plan for next year.

Any where you go you'll have a good time in beautiful country, but the harvest stats from DOW will narrow it down for you.

I was on the Colorado wildlife website last night and they have some leftover deer, elk tags. You would just have to see if they were for the unit you were planning on going to.

I went 2 years ago and did not have any problem with the physical part. Love to walk in the mountains. Will only camp no motels for me...

Just looking for a spot for next year. Went to the South west corner 2 years ago and had a blast. Just want to start planning now so I can be ahead of the game. Also looking to maybe rent some pack mules or hire someone to pack me in and co,e pick me up in about 2 weeks....

Thanks  for any input...Jamie
