Title: FOOTING and SPINE
Post by: stickum on November 17, 2012, 02:29:00 PM
Can I use a longer footing to stiffen the spine on carbon arrows?    I want to increase arrow weight and FOC.

I've played with that, considering that the arrow bends the furthest in the middle you'd have to have a pretty long footing to affect the spine.  I've used 4 inches of footing with very little apparent change in spine.

Try it and see.

It is too complex an issue for dummies like me to figure out. Do one like you want,  If it works, do the rest.  Remember O.L. and Dr Ashby's posts on internal footings too.

Thanks guy's...tried a 4 inch and it shows weaker.  I'll and some wt to the nock end.  I hadn't heard of internal footing so I will try to look that up.

I don't know how much more weight you want to add but be carefule with nock weight additions.  Go in little increments on the nock side, I have found I need 3 - 4 Grains up front to offset each grain of nock weight.  Good Luck.
