Who has shot or owned both? Thanks
NO ONE!!!!!!
That's a good problem to have in picking between those two!!! You simply cant go wrong with either but I would lean towards Ken with his edge in performance and he's a heck of a good guy too
Sorry, Slammer for sure !
I have a slammer and its amazing how well it shoots..right were I look...smooth, quiet, fast....
I have owned a Leon Stewart and it was great. And, had the pleasure of shooting other folks' Slammers.
I have shot or owned Whippenstick's. I had an Inferno. Probably the fastest recurve I have ever shot. Sold it to buy a Whippenstick Phoenix. The Phoenix is an amazing 3 pc Recurve.
And, I have a Whippenstick Whiplash on order.
Ken constantly refines his bows. Each new model is better than the last, in terms of fit/finish, cast, and accuracy.
Each year he has some tweak of small but brilliant innovation.
My 2 cents is Whippenstick.
What is a whiplash ?
I have a couple of Ken's bows and they are outstanding !!
Never seen or had a LS bow ..
A Whippenstick "Whipplash" is Ken's new long bow fashioned after Jack B. Harrison's Siberian. You can see pictures of it at Pirates of Archery / Member Products Forum / Whippenstick on the last page (26 I think).
I haven't shot a Stewart But I've shot several Whippensticks. At the moment I own a Phoenix and yes, it is an amazing bow to say the least :) I think it is the best bow I ever shot and I've tried a few....
Now, shall I buy the Whiplash.....? A horsebow was on my Bucketlist, how on earth did Ken know that????
Slammers are petty special, nice mass, shoot great and hit where you look.
If the Whiplash is Kens take on a Siberian Wolf I sure would love to own one. Ken is a fantastic bowyer and his bows are absolutely top performers.
God bless, Steve
Bill,
As per the norm, somebody needs to tell you to try and shoot both. Of course that might be tough to do. I see you are in Maryland. Leon is in South PA so you could probably drive up there and try one out. I'm in NOVA - you could try my Slammer out. I've never tried a Whipenstick, but I will tell you that I am recurve guy through and through. The Slammer is the only recurve I can consistently shoot well. Very smooth! You could also wait until the Baltimore Trad Shoot in the spring and try all of Leon's bows.
Bill,Whatever you decide ,remember we like our weight around 52-53# now LOL !.I have a Stewart RD longbow,It shoots as good as my Dwyer.I think both are great, you probably wouldn't go wrong with either.
I have owned more Leon Stewart longbows than I care to mention. He builds a great bow and is a great guy to deal with. You won't go wrong with a Slammer!!
Thanks,
Ron
I've owned numerous slammers and a few of leons rd bows and I'llbe honest.....they are no where near the caliber bows whippensticks are....speed, FINISH, shootability...whippenstick wins in every category.
I have a Whipplash on order, and am really looking forward to receiving that bow.
I have not shot a "Slammer". I have owned and shot Black Widow MA, Robertson's, Dale Dye, Cascade, Chek-Mate, Assenheimer, Fazio Balistic, Bow River customs and a few Damon Howatt Hunter and Super Diablos. I still own most of the above but since I got my Whippenstick I hardly ever shoot them. Whenever I do pick up one of my old standbys I realize how far that Ken Rolhoff has taken the bowmakers art. His bow is as fast as my Balistic, as quiet as my Dale Dyes or Assenheimer, as stable as any of them and is quieter than all of them. I am not sure what it is about his design or whether it is a function of the time he spends to get the tiller just so but the bow is dead in the hand on release. It is a strange feeling to have the limbs just stop when they hit brace height. No vibration, no shock , no resonance of the string or limbs just a very dead sounding "thump". The finest bow it has been my pleasure to shoot or own.
And as Forest Gump said "that's all I have to say about that".
Best regards,
Dan
Update. I got a Whippenstick. Of the 20 plus years of shooting Trad bows it is the fastest bow I have tested and very good work. BILL
Which model did you order? Pictures?
Thanks

Did you see that all black one on POA?
Ad,
I saw that all black Whipplash. Isn't that a beauty?
You might need one of those Ad?
Rob
I've bought, traded and made over 100 bows. My whippenstik is one of my favorites. I have one of his original longbows and it has held up really well for several year now.
