Several years ago I won a custom metal sign in the St.Jude's auction donated by Texan Rick Couch, known as Longarrow. I tried to contact him yesterday about ordering another sign and learned that he had passed away November 2 after a short bout with cancer. He was a really nice guy.
Sorry to here of his passing, prayers for his Family.
Goodspeed to the family...

Longarrow posted this on the prayer forum back Oct 11th I believe:
You will have to bear with me as I try to work thur this..It maybe long and.. maybe my last..First...Tradgang means the world to both of us, thanks to everyone! As most of you know I lost my brother & best friend (ShaftSlinger)to cancer in Jan '11. It has affected me in ways no one will understand. Harold was 74...I'll be 60 next month. Sep 25, (funny how you seem to remember important dates), working outside I get faint/lightgs headed, so I took a break. Thing continue to get worst, fatigue, weakness, dizzle, pain in the chest. My brother Darrell and I was at the hunting camp 3 Oct, (our wives had a taken themselfs to LA for a week of gambling & the good life!) Darrell asked if I wanted to hog hunt tonight, I told him I'd rather not, just not feeling up to it. Well the next morning, I tell him he needs to take me to the nearest "Urgent Care" unit. so 30 min later we arrive. We you say chest pain in hospital tha is worth a "hoot" watch out!! After 2 hours test, the doctor say he's sending me to "Big Hospital" where the "real doctors" work! Next thing you know in the red wagon going 80 MPH down the road! Let me tell you, when they pulled me out of wagon, I had 6 of the most beautful DOCTORS I've ever seem on top of me!! Where did the ladies come from!! OK....After 2 days of test, ect, ect. Nothing wrong with my, It's as strong as a 18 year old! But good doctors keep looking... sent me down for an "Utral Sound" (Yea I told tehm I wasn't pregant) I'm not the smartest in the world, BUT I do know when,Bright RED, BLUE dots staring popping up on and an utltra sound, it may not be good. So next up is a CT scan of the stomach region. Yep those things take very good pictures! Yep...the cancer got me to! How bad? Like the Doc said...there is no good cancer...it goes from bad to badest, mine is the badest of all. He gave me 2 weeks to 12. Not many patients i my condition see 12 months. No operations, it cover the kindeys, stomach and pancres. He doing a very good job of making me comfy!! ANOTHER THING TO KEEP IN MIND, 2 years ago I was 100% cancer free, had a cancer physical, colon exam all the bells and whistles. In just 2 years, this thing could end my life today! SUPPORT St Judes!! Just keep us in your prayer. Having serverd 24 years in Army and several wars, my family is about as prepared for theis ans can be. You know the best part...here very soon, I'll be sitting the campfire with Mom & Dad, Harold (ShaftSling) Winford, SISSY and many many more family and friends.
We never heard on that forum that he passed. Thanks, "bama" for the update. Sad how many cancer claims!

Sounds like he was prepared through his faith. He was a good fella, I have one of his signs.
Being a cancer survivor, I'll say that it is a blast in the face to be told you have it and opens the eyes to give you a new perspective on life whether it be for weeks or decades. I don't know him but I can tell the kind of guy he was from that quoted post. I admire him for his faith and can only say he is indeed in a better place. I will say a prayer of peace for all involved. God Bless them all
When friends die a piece of us goes with them. We can never fill that empty spot they left behind.
What an strong gentleman. I am saddened by the loss of a fellow trad gang member and prayers go out to those he left behind. I admire his faith.
God Bless him and bring comfort to his family.
Peace to his family. Prayers sent.
Prayers for peace for all concerned. Texas Hog Hollar was initiated by Rick, a Granger WMA Texas perhaps a Memorial Hog Hollar can be arranged.
Rick was a good man, as was his brother Harold. They both extended kindness to me in both word and deed. I know his brothers passing hit him like a freight train.i knew Harold first, and got to know Rick better after Harold passed away. I am so sorry to hear this news. Prayers for his family and friends. I will tell you all, our ranks needs more men like them, and they will both be sorely missed. Godspeed Rick, and give my regards to Harold. God bless.
Prayers send from The Netherlands. I am really touched by his last words, about sitting by the campfire....
Prayers for his loved ones. We lost a good one but he is in the best hunting camp of all now.
I invite everyone to shoot an arrow on the air to remember these 2 brothers of us.
Prayers sent. Man things happen fast. God bless.
I have read and re-read his last post - one strong man who was ready for whatever was coming.
I'll be shooting my arrow tomorrow morning from the Alabama woods.
May God grant his family peace and show him to a better hunting ground. He's at that campfire with his family members now. My prayers to his family here.
It is always sad to lose a friend and a fellow sportsman, but it is good to see somebody accept his own passing with such grace and dignity. It is obvious that he was a man of faith and inner strength, with the peace that comes from that faith. Although I never knew Longarrow, somehow, I suspect he lived his life with the same grace and character with which he concluded it. This should be an example we all try to follow. Prayers for all his friends and family, but don't be too sad either. After all, as he said, he has gone to a better place to re-join those loved ones who went before. God Bless.
Sounds like a fine example set for all of us. Prayers for family and friends.
Thank you Doc for giving us an isight on the man's last thoughts.May he rest in peace..

I knew Harold Couch and have a beautiful longbow he built for me. I was very saddened when Harold died and expressed that to Rick. Rick was my age, and having survived stage 4 cancer, I can understand much of what he was going through, although he handled his disease with much greater grace than I did. The one redeeming thought is that Rick is reunited with Harold and other family members now.

God bless Rick and his family.
Perhaps a Memorial Texas Hog Holler can be set up at Granger WMA TX. I'll start planning for first week of March, if there is interest. I'll be at the Granger Ranger Xtreme Hunt last weekend of February and extend that stay. If there are some folks willing to attend I can get a couple camp sites. I'll start another thread.
I live about 40 minutes from where Rick did and I too just heard this news recently. I have already tossed up a few prayers for his family and will ad another. Cancer is some bad stuff, for sure!

Godspeed to Longarrow and sincere condolences to his family and friends. Thanks to Longarrow, and to Doc Nock, for that post...today it makes life (and death) a little more real for all of us.
