Looking for 145 grain cut on impact screw in broad heads or 100 grain glue on.
I bought some Carbon Express arrows from a big box store last January for a good price but can't figure out how to remove the inserts without destroying the shaft. So, I'm stuck with using them at the length they are at. They shoot great out of my longbow with a 145 grain field point. I need either a 100 grain glue on with 43 grain adapter or 145 grain screw in.
Any recommendations?
Don't know about 145gr. but if you like 3 blade VPA and Wensel Woodsmans make a 150gr that are great.
Personaly I would go with the VPA,its a one piece and no vents and the extra 5gr will not hurt flight.
There are probably a bunch more you will hear about.
VPAs are the best 150 gr, especially for the price
If you are gonna cut off some of the shaft, say the last half inch or so, put a heavy field point into the insert, then heat up the field point (not the shaft) the heat will heat up the insert and will do in the glue. Pliers will then help twist the insert / field point until it releases.
I have had this work well, but I would be very careful you don't damage (overheat)the shaft and remove (cut off) the last bit of it to be sure.

I know this sounds weird but I used a glue on with adapter that came out to 152 grains and it did affect arrow flight.
ChuckC – Thanks for the advice, I'll try that.
Magnus Stinger 150gr 2 blade. My guess is the glue ons might not have been exactly true to center. The magnus 2 blades fly magnificently.
Bud - all of my tuning was done with screw in field points and 3 grain weights.
The glue-on was a field point?
Those Stingers should do you well.

What Bud was saying is the glue on broadhead was not dead on staight with the shaft and was catching air in flight.
Take the shaft with the broadhead on it and roll across a table and watch the tip of the broadhead to see if it wobbles.
I used a glue on field point with a spin tester to get the point on the adapter as straight as possible. I agree a broad head that is not mounted correctly would plain and affect arrow flight.
Take the glue on adapter and grind or drill the tip just some to get the weight you want. I have even sharpened the broad head a little extra to get weights even.
A few grains will make no difference in a tuned set up. We have both Tusker Javelins and Magnus Stingers in 150 Screw ins available. Both tend to fly laser straight, very good designs.
Depending how much room you have to work with may just be able to cut behind the insert and salvage it by breaking away the remaining shaft.

its only 130, i dont know if one gram (15grain) will impact your tune. i have a hard time spotting the difference between 50gr!
if there is a better way to spend $7 on a two blade broadhead, id like to find it.
cheers

I'm not a good enough shot to notice the difference in flight or point of impact. However, I was using the arrow tuning process that Ol Adcock has on his web site and the 7 grain increase between the 145s and 152s did make a difference.
Good advice on trying to shave weight from the adapters. I may give that a try. What has me confused is why they produce 145 grain field points but I can't seem to find 145 grain screw in broadheads.
Thanks for the advice!!!
I've used the 150gr VPA 2 blade and they work great.
Here you go with some excellent 145 grain screw-in broadheads:

Also, the Bear Super Razorhead can be purchased as a 145 grain screw-in. It has killed more animals than just about any metal broadhead, but I had one bad experience with the head and stopped using them 25 years ago. Undoubtedly, the Bear heads can get the job done.

The blue Bear two blade bear razar is 145.
150gr Magnus Stingers. Shoot great, spin true and I weighed 1/2 dozen on my scale and each one was exactly 150gr. I got mine from Tim at Braveheart, great service and he's a sponsor here.
Sir,
if you are noticing the difference in arrow flight due to 7 grains, or in other words 1/2 of a gram or 1/60th of an ounce, then your form must be quite exemplary.
also, did you weigh the heads or are you taking the weight on the packet as fact? because those vary by 5 grams regularly
cheers
Zwickey black diamond 5/16 with a long alum. insert come out at 145 so do old bear razor heads.
One of the web moderators sent me a note. Not sure why he didn't post here because the information was helpful. I don't know why I didn't think of this since it was so obvious.
Here is his suggestion: "if the nocks are removable, you can easily just remove them and cut from THAT end."
duh :)
There is one called the sasquach that comes really sharp and is 145gr. I think it is made by Zephyr. great blade for the money. You have to use it w/out the bleeder blade to make it 145gr.
