After about 2 1/2 hrs into my evening sit, nestled away in some cedar trees, and not seeing anything in front of me, i happened to notice that a doe had snuck in behind me, and was grazing in the native grass field to my rear. Well, having not seen anything in front of me, i figured id try to close the roughly 140 yrd gap between me and the doe. After 1 1/2 hrs of cat and mouse and getting to within 35 yrds of her, she she sensed something was amiss and graciously took her leave.
Im tellin ya folks, thats fun s^&* right there! i dont care who you are! pitting my stalking skills against the senses of that ole doe was more fun than ive had in ages. She may have won the tactical battle, but i got the prize,...... A wonderful evening hunt! :campfire:
That does sound fun!
Moleman,
That is what it is all about. They are better than we can ever hope to be, but sometimes the pieces fall all together. Keep the spirit of the hunt alive
Its fun hunts like this that keep me coming back for more.
Success is not always based on filling a tag, but more often than not, success is based on the enjoyment and challenge of trying to fill that tag.
Who knows Moleman, maybe the Doe enjoyed it too. Animals get bored, so the hunt may have given her an interesting day as well. This time of year you never know when a buck might pop on the seen as well. Happy hunting and keep that good perspective. :campfire:
I stalked to within 40 yards of three does a couple weeks ago. I ran out of cover at that point as I watched one of them bed down. Dang hard to do when there are three sets of eyes! It was a rush though, then the landowner came cruising through on his ATV and all three of them bugged out. Not that it mattered, I was kind of stuck anyway. It is definitely an intense way to hunt!
Certainly is a thrill putting on a good stalk, just wait till you connect........Don't get any better.
Sounds like you had a good time, good luck on the next one.
yup trees are for the Birds Bro :clapper: :clapper: :clapper:
This is why Howard Hill called considered stalking one of, if not the most critical skill of the bow and arrow hunter. I can see by the tone of your message that it was a highlight for you. Congratulations. I bet you learned something and get closer the next time
  :thumbsup:Even though I'm a tree guy, I agree. Much more fun down below. Its why I love elk hunting so much.
