My name is Gary Hall and I have been making arrows for over 20 years. As a kid I grew up in my father's archery pro shop here in Connecticut. I spent most of my weekends there. Getting up early with my father and heading to work with him whenever I could. I did this for years until one day the old man gave me a job making and repairing the rental arrows for the indoor archery range. Not long after that I started making arrows for a few customers in the store. I was the kid in the back that made the arrows and within a few years I was the guy that made ALL the arrows for the shop.
My father and I wanted a smaller archery pro shop, one that was based more around hunting and traditional archery. We also wanted one that was more about the customer and having them become a friend, rather than a just person in the store to spend money. We wanted to have fun again at work, and so we started Andover Archery together. It started out slow and small and now it seems to have taken off and is going great. And again I was the guy making the arrows and I loved it.
During this time I met my wife Jessica and she gave me two little boys Mark and Dylan and I had a family of my own. Spending more money on gas and daycare then with what the store could pay, I decided to stay home with my boys and work part time in the town I live in, and turn the store front over to my father and let him run with it on his own.
But I could not just stop being involved with archery - it's all I really know and love other than my family. So I am starting D&M Custom Arrows. The D&M stands for Dylan and Mark. I hope this is something I can someday pass down to them. For me, making arrows is a passion and if there is one thing I would like to teach my boys it's if you are passionate about something then go with it whole heartedly no matter what! And that's what I am going to do with D&M Custom Arrows.
I will have a full color brochure ready to mail out in January 2013, but until then I thought the best place to start is here on TRAD GANG. Here are a few samples of my work - all of my arrows are made with right wing TrueFlight feathers. I do try to stock every color that they offer and I use Beman Bowhunters and ICS Hunters for my stock shafts in all sizes. I use many Easton and Beman products but have access to others, if there is something special you are looking for, please feel free to ask. Most of my arrows cost $120.00 a dozen, which includes shipping to the lower 48. I will cut and install inserts for no extra charge. I look forward to serving your arrow needs and working with you in the future.
Thank you,
Gary D Hall

One more for the weekend!!
I am off hunting and will have some inventory ready ASAP.
Trying to fill the orders I have and get some posted here on Trad Gang
You guys and gals on Trad Gang are the best thank you !!! Working hard to fill your orders!!
really nice arrows!
Nice looking arrows. I would like to see an entry in the arrow ckntest.
You do very nice work sir! Welcome aboard.
Those are top shelf arrows !
Awesome looking stuff.
Oh man those brown spliced are brutal. Nothing can make a quiver look better!
do you work with Heritage and could you do left wing spliced up if requested?
QuoteHere are a few samples of my work - all of my arrows are made with right wing TrueFlight feathers.
Not to sound dumb but did you mean to say right or left wing feathers? As a right handed shooter I've always used left wing feathers. The right wing ones aren't even all that common from what I've seen.
very clean lines.........
At this time my arrows are all made on Right Helical Bitzenburger Jigs I dont have any left helical yet! I want to make arrows for everyone and anyone. As I get bigger I know I will have to do the leftwing thing. As for colors as far as I know Truflight has most in LW and RW I have my 2013 catalog due in anyday. And I will have all colors that are offered.
It will not matter what you use left wing or right wing feathers. UNLESS you are useing a single bevel broadhead then it will come into play other then that it seems that most people start out with one or the other and never change and thats fine. Thats what I did and how I ended up have all right helical jigs.
And as for the CX Heritage shaft, I can get them will have some instock next week I hope. I can always order them and most of the arrows out on the market I can get my hands on. I can have most shafts in about 2-3 days as long as my distributer has them in stock.
Those are some beauties Gary. Your crests and splices look really clean. Good luck with the business.
OK sounds great,, I'm pretty much left wing only and I think it came from my selfbow days and something about the way the quill spun away from my hand where I didn't use shelves 15yrs ago,,, I also shoot left bevel centaurs and abowyers and have so many that I have to stay Left wing.
the feather splicing is what is drawing me in though,, not many who do that will make up carbons too as long as you can get heritage and hopefully 100grain brass inserts but I can always send inserts if needed
I'll be talking with ya,, T
I will have the new Easton Trad arrows that is wood grain and or the classics. Heritage shafts for sure and plenty of brass inserts for those arrows.
I prefer RW feathers!
Lookin' forward to a brochure.
PM sent.
Shoot straight, Shinken

My, my, my. I do not know how I missed this. For all that work; capped and hand crested along with spliced feathers for only $120? You have anything ready in a 340 MFX Classic?
I can't do much better than that price wise with some wraps and fletching my own shafts.
The best part of it is I can get a good looking arrow with a precision aluminum or carbon shaft. Before this, the only way to get a good looking arrow was to sacrifice performance and buy wood ones.
Just spoke with Gary and ordered a dozen of the ics hunters with the brown yellow and traditional barred. Super nice guy and very helpful. Can't wait to get my arrows. I will definitely be dealing with him with all my arrow needs. Thanks Gary
THANK YOU GUYS ANS GALS ON TRAD GANG
ORDERS are coming in fast and keeping me on my toes.
THANK YOU THANK YOU !!!
Gary D Hall
TTT for awesome looking arrows
Anyone have pics of the arrows Gary has made for you?
Nice work Gary, great contrast in your arrows, good luck
OK, I just wanted to tell you guys the great experience I had with Gary on a recent order.
I saw this thread as I was about ready to leave for a mountain lion hunt. I was so excited to see someone making great looking NON WOOD arrows I wanted to see if I could get a dozen in time to take along.
Gary not only made me a set of Easton Full Metal Jackets in record time, he sent them to one of my stops on my way out west so I would have them.
I asked Gary for something very visible in flight and in the snow. He delivered!

What I thought would be a quick hunt turned into a 2 week marathon and those arrows and fletching stood up to thousands of miles of pounding in the back of trucks or strapped to snowmobiles, dog boxes, or my backpack. They stood up to it all perfectly. And I did not get a cat, so they will be right the again next year.

Steve
Thank you for the great review. It was my pleasure and the pictures you put up are great.
Thank you so much
Gary D Hall
Gary, Some fine looking arrows. Shame I shoot LW..... You will have LW bitz next week, That should make it easier.
Bob
One thing I forgot to mention; temps were between 4F and 34F with a little rain and lots of snow thrown in for good measure. Not one hint of a feather falling off :D
Gary, do you know if all Bemans are constructed the same? The reason I ask is I have found that the Bowhunters dont seem to hold up as well as other carbons I have used but I wasn't sure if the carbon in them was structured and bonded the same as other Beman varieties. By the way, I just love those with the brown, yellow and barred splice.
Possum Head
There are a few ways an arrow is constructed and it's all in the way they lay the carbon fibers down. And most of the Bemans are made the same way. Easton and Beman are the same company now Easton has a few arrows out there that hold up really well. Any of the arrows with an aluminum core or a carbon core with an aluminum coat on the outside are some. The AC Pro Hunters are one of the best arrows out there they just are very expense but man do they take a beating I still have 3 from about 2 years ago I play with stump shooting and squirrel hunting. But the problem with these arrows they can bend. I have played with just about every arrow out there and the ICS Hunters the BOWHUNTERS are hard to beat for the money. Some of the better ones that don't empty the wallet would be the ST Epics or ST Excel they have a thicker wall and are smaller in diameter then the ICS Hunters and Bowhunters. In fact I will be posting up the last of my EPIC N-Fused Carbon I just made up tonight. I don't know what they are calling them now Wildthings and Bloodlines. So if you would like to try something a little more durable try any of the ST carbon arrows I just talked about. I hope that will help let me know if I can do anything for you or answer any questions.
GDH
Gary makes awesome arrows and is a good friend too!
Gary, it did answer my question and confirmed my suspicion on the carbon layout. Seems when the Bowhunters would break it was always a clean snap where other carbons left splinters. The Bemans are accurate shafts and a handy as our local archery shop sells them fletched with 5" parabolics. Thanks for the insight and merry Christmas! Oh and best wishes at D&M.
WRV
I hope to see you at ETAR this year I missed last year but will not miss it again!!! We will need to hit the 3Ds with the ZMAN clan !!
GDH
Beautiful arrows - best wishes for your success in this venture. Sounds like you're doing really well so far!
I have something new in the classifieds. Here are a dozen 340 ST Epic N-Fused Carbon arrows. These are some super nice arrows I made up but in the end of the cresting job I had a mishap with my cresting machine. And it was my fault I let D&M come in for a few minutes to hang out with dad. As you can see in the picture the bottom part of the cresting the silver and black was not even. Not paying attention and trying to keep an eye on the two monsters at the same time did not help! (http://images.imagelinky.com/1355947719.JPG) (http://images.imagelinky.com/1355947719.JPG)
And here is the two monster D&M my sons Mark and Dylan (http://images.imagelinky.com/1355947965.JPG) (http://images.imagelinky.com/1355947965.JPG)
Good looking arras and better looking kiddos.
Congrats on both.
Merry Christmas,
CTT
Yep good looking boys there! I have twin 8 year old girls who fortunately are finally at the age where they dont mess me up when i am working on something....of course they want to do the same thing as i am doing so i have to get them set up first!!!

I forgot to add this, Thanks to Bob Morrison and his great gift of some left wing Bitzenburger gigs. D&M is now building both Laft wing and Right wing arrows. I do have a few stock arrows in the making and should have them up as soon as I can.
And again thank you guy and gals on Trad Gang for your support could not have done this with out you.
