Title: Quitening a Checkmate Raven
Post by: rbcorbitt on November 09, 2012, 01:30:00 PM
Picked up a Checkmate Raven for a really good deal.

52# @ 28".

Biggest complaint that I have is the noise.  Even with SBD string and silencers, this bow is extremely noisey.

Anyone with experience with these bows.  What brace height, silencer combo and arrow weight are you shooting?

Try a 600gr arrow.

12-14 strands of Dynaflight '97 or 8125G, or 16-18 strands of 8190.  Higher brace--around 9", give or take (48" string).  Adjust brace to find the sweet spot--go slow and in small increments.  Once you find the sweet spot in the brace height, add cat whiskers.  Cut short so they ball up, tied on around the string so they can be adjusted. Move them up or down the string 1/2" at a time and you'll find they have a sweet spot also.

String served so the nocks don't snap on hard, arrows that weigh at least 9 gpp.  With a decent release, it will be very quiet.
