Stand is hung, bucks are moving, wind is high. Morning Should be good though.
Good luck Jim, hope it doesn't rain you out Sunday morning.
Good luck Jim!!! I hope a big one walks by tomorrow morning.
Keep us informed
Good luck!
Swaying in a tree as we speak.
I'd rather be there than here! Getting ready to head off to work. Best of luck to you sir!
Did you all see the monster over on TR that Mike Megee killed at Big Mac? Man that is truly the land of giants down there.
Keep us posted please and thank you.
K.C.
Good Luck Jim, I think you ought to take some rain Gear, and keep the feathers dry! The latest prediction I saw was for rain from around OKC to the East. I am thinking it will miss where I hunt. Will be watching this thread and read the reports from you.
"swaying in the tree" LOL, no kidding
Long hot day today. 11 hrs on stand and saw part of a deer 30 min before dark. Tough to stay motivated when tomorrow will be the same.
I have yet to have a good hunt here. Always blazing hot or windy and I have never seen anything over 80" in the field.
Jim, keep enthused! You got the right time of the year and it only takes a few moments for that lifetime magical experience!!
Only saw one buck on the pole and he was 140"ish
If it helps I hunted the Deep Fork in Okmulgee wed.thurs. and this morning and although windy and warm deer were moving from sun-up until 11:30ish everyday. One old timer was the only buck I saw alone, two others were paired up with a doe each. A few single does, I didn't see any chasing going on.I set up in blow downs and stayed on the ground.
Good luck
Rusty
high wind and warm weather is gonna make it hard for you bud, find the does is all I can say.
Been tough this year, what with the wind and warm weather. Hard to keep motivated but then, there's always the next set.
Best of luck to you!
Guy shot one a half mile from me that was a brute, yesterday. They said it measured 186. I saw it from a distance, and it had a very wide spread, but can't confirm the size. I saw nada yesterday, but just got winded/snorted at. Very touhj conditions.
Stay at it bud. At least you are there! I've not got drawn for Mac for the last 3 years now.
The deer are there and you are there. I'd bet with the front moving in tomorrow or tonight that you'll see more movement today.
Best of luck! I'll be checking back in on you.
K.C.
Good luck!
come on Pat, lets get it done :)
Man where you guys hunting at I was in hominy two weekends ago and got a p&y
I'm in Bear Trap, they opend a s,all portion next to hominy.
Better day today. 4 deer in 12 hours. Three bucks though. One I bumped on the way out, unsure what it was. The first one at 7:30 was about 120ish but offered no shot. That kept me going until about noon. I had been grunt calling off and on all morning to no avail. I heard two distinct grunts out in front of me about 60 yards but could see no movement. I grunted an estrous bleat but got nothing. I closed my eyes for a minute. I opened my eyes and looked to my right and must have looked like a cartoon character with my eyes bugged out! Out there at about 90-100 yards was the biggest buck I have ever seen in the field.
Not much of a judge but comparing him to the 160" buck killed this evening, he was wider and taller. Not as much mass though. Some of his tines were at least 8-10" long and I'd say his rack was at least 20-22" wide inside and 18" tall!
I grabbed my grunt call and grunted at him with a medium low grunt. He snorted at me like the snort wheeze sound but gave no wheeze.
I thought he's gonna come kick some butt! He milled around some then wandered off leaving me super charged for several hours.
The third buck I saw was 10 yards out in front of my stand before I saw him. This guy was a real monster! Imagine a 5 year old child making two peace signs.... thats how big his rack was. LOL :) If he had been a doe then it would have been game on as they are giving quality passes this year. He stopped broadside at about 8 yards and put his head down so I drew, picked a spot then let him walk.
It was still a LONG day but at least I finally saw some of the famed AAP bucks. Still havent seen any does. Going to be raining in the a.m with 18 mph winds. Looks like I'll be packing my pop up in. Hunt ends at noon. Not sure if I'll make it that long.
Didn't see a deer today. Another day where 3 of the 5 in the group didn't see anything. As Jim said, supposed to rain in the morning. I packed it up and I am back at home. Told my wife I would go to Dallas with her early in the morning. Maybe I will make it back home in time to hunt the afternoon.
Here is the buck shot yesterday that I referred to in a previous post. Maybe if I get another chance to hunt here I will run into something like this.

That is a monster buck. It's the possibility of a stud like that walking under you that makes Big Mac such a special place.
That pic is one *nice* buck!
Sounds like you had some good activity today Razor!
Stay mentally tough and get 'r done!
Shoot straight, Shinken
:archer2:
WOW, that is a bruiser PDK. Did someone in your group get that one?
I'm hoping and praying that I'll finally get drawn for a hunt there next year!

My hunting buddy and I carpooled to the hunting area in a truck with 3 other guys. One of them shot at this deer, and the deer whirled at the shot. He said he wounded it, but didn't specify where. The deer was killed a few hundred yards from him by another hunter.

Oh man, I bet that guy who wounded it is sick! :knothead:
Too bad the weather we have today didn't roll in last Friday. I bet the warm, gail force winds were a challenge there. It sure has been in my neck of the woods.
same here in sasakwa Preston, I plan on hunting tomm and maybe one more day before the big gun season blows in.
It pored on us before we got out of the woods. I saw two bucks at a distance this morning using the same trail I saw the others use. Should have moved.
There are a lot of rocks around the fire ring, each one representing a P&Y buck. It should be called "Bonehenge".
Sorry you didn't add a rock yourself Jim! I've been twice with no luck, but the potential keeps me putting in every year. One of these days...
My hunts there have progressively gotten better... so it's just a matter of time right? LOL:)
Just knowing that there are huge deer there keeps us all going back! Some people think it's an easy hunt, but it's not! Those bucks see 200-300 hunters/weekend for 6 straight weekends. They don't get that big because they are stupid!
Glad you at least got to see a couple of big ones Jim! Good luck with the rest of your season!
The last morning there was a very nice young man that killed a brute of a 12 pt. Dark rack with great mass. Beautiful, especially when it was wet from the mornings rain.
I was one of the lucky ones that planted a rock and have the blister to prove it. If you go, I recommend you take a pic to get through the roots.
I was a bit surprised to see my buck pictured earlier in the thread. I feel blessed to have even seen such a fine animal. Lightning does indeed strike the unsuspecting. I may post some more pics later.
The deer had indeed sustained a non-lethal wound in a hindquarter prior to my kill shot. A doe and fawn had just ran by me, the doe I missed. I then started looking for what was pursuing her. When I saw him he was showing no sign of being hurt. He had temporarily lost the trail and was working it out. If you have ever watched a high powered pointer bird dog hunt you know how he was acting. Once he got back on the trail things happened real quick. He came in on the run and a soft mouth bleat by me brought him to a screeching stop at 5-6 steps. I was at full draw and dropped the string on him.
Prior to the shot as I watched him I never even noticed a limp. I only saw blood on his hindquarter either at the shot or just after.
The gentleman that had wounded the deer handled it in a manner that is commendable. He congratulated me and I in return sincerely hoped he would get another opportunity.
Many nice deer were taken and a big thanks goes out to Mr. Starry, his crew and all the white hats that make it happen.
Got one picture resized.

Briars thats an excellant buck, you have to be proud of him.
Briars,
Did they say if he is Sasquatch? He sure looks like him on the 10 most wanted list. Congrats on a great buck!

No not Sasquatch, they said they were aware of him but did not have a picture of him so they had not named him.
Bills son did say he was glad I got him as he had been spotted many times crossing a highway outside the base. He was afraid he would end up getting hit.
Great job on a great buck. Sorry if you thought I was trying to steal your thunder by posting that picture. I didn't know if the person who scored was a tradgang member. Buck of a lifetime, there.
Congrats Briars on an awesome buck. I love hunting that place and the potential of finding a great buck like that.
I was the guy talking to you while you were digging that hole. Another stone added to "Bonehenge". Congrats are in order! Maybe one day I'll get a chance like that.
I was fortunate to have another chance this year thanks to Mr. Starry. I was deployed last year and he made good on a promise to let me attend the same weekend this year. Never think for a second that the deer in the hunt areas are like the deer on the base head quarters lawn! It is a tough hunt. A comfy stand is an absolute must or you just wont stay in that tree. My stand was the Millenium hangon with the folding seat. NICE!
Great deer. Congrats and thanks for sharing. :clapper: :clapper:
Good luck Jim
pdk25, think nothing of it, I was actually flattered. I still have not come to terms with taking such a nice animal.
razorsharptokill, thanks for coming over to visit. You do not know how much I appreciated yours and the other folks that helped me dig that hole. The light and comradeship made it fun. Once I got past those roots I got a bit carried away. LOL
Also much thanks to you for your service, veterans day and all. As far as the millennium tree stand goes, I got the tree seat and love the thing. I hunted off the ground Sat. evening and Sun. morning using it. I fell asleep on the evening hunt and got a bit of much needed rest. Love that seat.
If we ever draw out again at the same time, please come up and introduce yourself. Basically remind me, I have a terrible time with names and faces.
Thanks for all the congrats on the buck, but luck is luck. I sincerely hope you guys are the lucky ones next year.
Hopefully if we draw the same weekend and area I'll be in your hip pocket! LOL!
Briars, congrats on that incredible buck!! Allen Cherry, who was in your group, is a friend of mine. He emailed me a pic of you and your buck and I immediately recognized it as the buck that was pictured a couple days ago on this thread. I'm glad you posted another pic with you in it! And thanks for telling the story... I can not imagine how you must have felt when that arrow hit its mark and then when you recovered the deer!
Enjoy the afterglow! :jumper:
Truely a buck of a lifetime!
Thanks Tsalt,
Allen and his dad were as good a guys as you could hope for to ride with.
Allen got his quality pass. I just wish his dad would have been as lucky. I really like the ol man. He was a hoot and probably had forgot more about chasing deer than the rest of us in the group.
A couple of times I complained about wrenching a knee slightly, then come to find out Allens dad had lost both big toes to diabetes and was still keeping up with Allen and I know they did a crap load of walking. One tough son of a gun. Got my respect!
I hope I get to hunt with them again someday.
Briars,
Congrats on that buck. I was in camp last weekend hunting Boggy and saw him strung up that evening. That is one fine deer.
Well I drew Deer Creek. Never been in there. Any pointers?
Hey Jim,
Cam, toehead, myself and another fella got Boggy the last week of October. Good luck on your hunt.
Myself and a buddy got Boggy November 8th-10th . Shoot me a pm with your address I will mail a topo map of some areas in deer creek that were good.
I got Hominy 10/25-27 I hunted DeerCreek two years ago and the year before. I know good areas there if anyone wants info, but I need info on Hominy. Cant wait to get back out there. hopefully the last week in october will be ebtter than the first weekend hunt that I was on before. Early was rough, Hot, Buggy, and little daytime movement. Looks like this will be the week after the full moon so I should have good morning movement. I hope! And I am praying for a cold front! I have got to get that osage stave finished. God luck to all that got drawn in, and please let me know if you have info on Hominy.
Jim, pm me your email and I will share what I know about Deer Creek.
Brian
Trout, sent you what I have.
Did you get what I sent?
Yes, thank you.
Drew in Hominy 11/1-3 2013. Also looking for any info available. New to this site and trad hunting. Left my wheeled bow in the closet and haven't it got back out since I picked up a bare bow. Pulled map & satelit over view off web. Any input on this hunt area or coming in contact with local trad hunters would be great.
Good hunting, guys! Ours begins on 01 September. I'm seeing does right now, but there are some big deer in this area!
Well you fellows wont have to worry about me this year. Neither my son or myself got drawn on anything. We will just have to get after the ones here local.
You guys go get em and I will be watching for some good pictures. :)
Hey Briars, good to hear from ya. Were you on the ground when you took the buck? Blind or suit or both? Allan
