Long story short, i found some MIA Pearson shafts tipped with Switchblade heads in my barn, still in the box, never shot, complete with replaceable bleeders. Seems a shame to just have them lay around, but on the other hand they are classic pieces of our archery heritage.
Just curios how many still use the classic and vintage heads?
Do Zwickeys count?....just wondering...been around for a long time.
You aint wrong Terry, and still gettin it done as well as ever, one of my favorite heads.
I decided to retire my vintage razorheads. They saw plenty of action in my younger days. I still use some older zwickeys though.
Started shooting trad with Zwickeys. Still shooting them today. If it aint broke, don't fix it. I even bought old rusty ones at yard sales and flea markets. They looked lonely. :archer:
I've used and taken game with a number of different broadheads over the years. 4 blade, 3 blade, 2 blade, replaceable blade, single bevel, etc.
My favorites for a long time were Ribteks. I still have some and will use them in a heartbeat.
I was looking to switch to a more readily available head and came down to the Ace Standards. I like a 2 blade head, they sharpen easily with a file, real tough, fly great, Made in the USA, and you can still get 6 for a reasonable price. They did a real nice job on the last 2 whitetails I shot.
The Ace Standard, or some version thereof, has been around since the 1930's. I'd call that a "Classic." Good company to deal with as well.
I'm using Switchblades now also. I mix them in with Zwickey Eskimos. I shot a bear last year with one and was impressed.
I'm still using Razorheads. They work as good now as they ever did.
Bear razor heads here.
Maybe not vintage but I still hunt with some Snuffers I bought around 1982.
I still shoot origional Jerry Simmons' Inteceptors.
Im using bear razorheads on my autumn orange 2115's out of my '67 bear tigercat...retro all the way this season..took my last buck with a super kodiak and a bear razorhead too...easy to sharpen and have probably taken more game than all others combined...
this year Iam using cliff zwickies,an bear greenies.I haven taken deer with the cliff zwickie so for lets face it anything well flying an sharp will do the trick.old or new.
Zwickey, Magnus, Ace, Bear, and a couple of Dead heads also.
I don't think magnus would be considered vintage.
I have some bear razorheads with 100 grain inserts, no bleeders. I use original WWs with inserts too
Zwickey Delta's and Eskimo's. Team green! :)
Still shoot Zwickey and have some old MA-3 that I shoot some. Great heads, as good as any built today.
Mine are all modern but vintage styled. Ribteks (harken to the old Pearson Skeleton Ferrule), Magnus II (kind of Fleetwood. . . ish) and Stos (kinda like the '39 Zwickey, kinda). All simple file-sharpened single blade heads.

I must be the only person who got into a bad batch of Zwickeys. I bought two dozen four blade Eskimos (blue paint) in the 80's and had three of them fail at the spot welds in practicing on stumps. The same stumps the Ribteks and Magnus IIs shrugged off. I relegated them to bunnies and coyotes and still get the occasional failure - though some silver solder and they soldier on. As I say - must have been a bad batch. :dunno:

Razorheads for me.
ribteks for me primarily though trying something new this year....first broadhead change in almost 15 years
I use razor heads original ones!!
Magnus have been around for a long time....maybe not vintage.....but a long time!
Zwickey Deltas. I do have some Bear Razorheads, but I haven't used them for quite a while. Deltas take and hold a lot better edge for me.
I always carry an old Bear razorhead along with the newer zwickeys. Took my best bull with an old Bear in '05.
Deadheads - love the looks and the width....
Bear - Razorheads

glenn
VPA 3 blades... instant classic lol

Look quick.

It's a 1946 Ivanhoe. If Mr. Magnus didn't know about them in 1992 he sure came coincidentally close.

I guess it's the difference between vintage and retro. Or at least 'in the spirit of vintage".
All I shoot are zwickey's and deadheads!
Aside from the Snuffer...original Zwickey Eskimos, Pearson Deadhead and Schulz Hunter head. All deadly heads.

I'm shooting Zwickey 4-blade Deltas that are about Fifty years old. Bought 3 dozen around '70 and still have more than a dozen new ones remaining. Most of the used ones have been used over and over on everything from rabbits and squirrels to P & Y class deer, and except for the finish, are as good as new.
I'm using Mowoc Dots.....guess the year on these?
When I take the vintage 1971 Bear Super Kodiak I refinished out to the woods, it carries Bear Razorheads on vintage Microflite #8 shafts. Real barred feathers from associate sponsor Magnus (Matt Gundock) information (http://tradgang.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=162;t=000042) here on Tradgang. Even the camo covers are period specific. It's a fun set-up and it's a beautiful shooter.

I shoot Bear Razorheads
Mowoc Dot 1960
Solid 3 blade big as a Snuffer

"This head was considered rare until one collector located a few hundred"
Got an extra one? :bigsmyl:
been using Butterfield Brutes. I can get them sharper than any other head I own.
ChuckC
Deadheads and snuffers.......

Hitman has it! Beautiful ... Timeless ... Classic ... And still getting the job done!
Thanks Jedimaster. Well put. I love making these and they shoot great.
I'm shooting Razorheads this year for the first time. The results have been great!!

Love me some Zwicky Delta 4 blades. I also shoot Pearson Deadheads once in a while.
God bless,
Nathan
Zwickey Delta 2bl since about 1975. Bear Razorhead before that.

Those look awesome! :notworthy:
I'd like to find a few Goshawk broadheads to hunt with.
Not sure if I'll Sie these but they came from some older arrows that belonged to a friend of my father's. There are five blades that spin freely around the ferrule. There is a small hole in them for the "wrench" to tighten em down. Might be small game in their future but I have to weight em first. I'm betting. The ole standard 125
Shootin Schulz Hunter heads. Too bad my slump with shooting has led to no blood on the ground this season. It aint over yet!
Bear Razorheads for me.
Im still debating weather to use the Switchblades, but i was successful this yr. using the tried and true Howard Hill heads.
Stinkers to sharpen, but once sharp they are tough to beat. IMO
DVSHunter,
Those are Razorback 5 broadheads. The stem unscrews and a plastic "practice" blade unit could be used.
c.1985
Trivia: In "Rambo" the explosive arrows are the plastic Razorback 5 modules with the plastic safety cover painted C-4 gray. ;--)
I only shoot three blades now with carbon arrows, but have used the Hunter's Head, Mohawk I, and Ace Superexpress to take hogs and deer and a Bison. Still got two doz Sweetlands with a mixture of these heads on them, might have to break them out and use em out of my Bear Type 1 A,LOL.
Bear razorheads, they still get the job done!
will be trying an old Ben Pearson Deadhead this Spring on turkey out of my old Browning Explorer I recurve... :)
Seems the more I age.......the further back I go.
Haven't been able to bowhunt the past year do to "issues"...and still kicking myself for selling my 52 Cub......sigh. Older yet not smarter it seems.
When funds allow another "era proper" bow will arise to my liking and within my budget but....
There isnt a head here I'll feel needs any second guessing properly used. Dont have lots.
Probably more in there I cant recall at the moment but...
Goshawks
Lafonds Rippers (not pictured)
Lafonds Lightning.
Ivanhoes
Herters
Deadheads.
Hill Hornets
Doubt Ill use a Ripper but......still bet with enough arrow weight....it would work. Rumors of not penetrating well seem logical.
Others will get slung at a deer sooner or later,Lord Willing.
Just sharing....

oh yeah.......probably on the few Sweetland shafts I have. *grin*

Aren't all Bear Razorheads "original"?
Trap
Good point.....unsure myself if the SS ones are "Razorheads"?
I am shooting Ace Standards now but also love Bear Razorheads (putting together a couple dozen to use with my KHunter and Super Kodiak and others)but I just like a heavier head. Ace, STOS and Grizzlies. Those all ahve been around a long while. Have lusted after Pearson Deadheads but can not find any that are not out of my price range.
I did. ONCE. Purchased new "old stock" and had a 160 grain Wolverine broadhead SNAP on impact retarding penetration to mear centimeters. Lost 180" buck as a result. NEVER AGAIN.
save your money boys. Buy new stock.
justin
Bear Razorheads here. I love them and no reason to look else where.
Another guy still using the old Bear razorheads!!
