Title: Rainy day arrows
Post by: twospots on November 06, 2012, 04:04:00 PM
Has anyone tried trimming down Spiral wrapped Flu Flu's and use them as regular hunting arrows? I would guess that the shorter the spirals are (trimmed closer to the arrow) the faster the arrow would go. Instead of getting my hunting fletches wet, I was thinking the spiral wrapped feathers are already pulled apart so its not going to matter...?

It's not so much the feathers separating when they are wet, its that they lay flat when they get wet

go with a few arrows fletched with goose feathers.  They work great in the wet conditions.

Never tried it, dont get me wrong, but I would think if they are spiral wrapped the seperated vanes of the feather would still stick out (unless in a serious downpour) because of the physics of the bent quill part of the arrow.. Maybe I'm way off, just figured I'd ask.  Thanks.

Ah, that makes a lot of sense. Waterfowl... Hmmmm... Ok thanks a lot guys.

On a side note I knew a guy who tried to boil dip a goose to pluck the feathers. He couldnt figure out why the feathers were not getting very wet... Boiled that goose so long he cooked it in its feathers.
