I just got a Tall Tines from Brian a couple weeks ago and I can't seem to get it as quiet as other recurves I've owned. Maybe I'm doing something wrong but need some help. I also have some vibration in the handle after release. I'm thinking my arrows are a little weak. They are 400's with 200 grains up front and from groove of nock to insert is 30.5". I have yarn balls in the string and yarn wrapped around the loops.
Thanks, Logan
My 60"s are whisper quiet with a brace height of about 7.5 with wool yarn sliencers on the string at the quarters.
When you say quarters do you mean 14" from each loop?
Something is wrong.
I'd unstring it and check the cork limb pads. Next, tighten down the limb bolts firm but not bubba redneck tight. I put velcro the string grooves, then string her up braced at 7 1/2. The string silencers should be good.
Funny you're having this problem as mine are the quietest bows I own.

I'll get it figured out! I've only heard good things about tall tines, I'm sure I don't have something right!
Sounds like me and my Widow love it but can't shut her up. Probably I'm just spoiled by longbow.
I had the same problem with the 3 widows I had BUT look into those SBD strings with the padded loops they make the bow sound like it has B50..
A lot of times a too stiff arrow makes a lot of noise hitting hard the window.
I bareshaft tuned this bow before I fletched any arrows. I left the arrows a tad on the weak side but nothing horrible. The bow came with a SBD string and that's all I use on my bows, they work great and really help. I'm going to move the yarn balls to the quarters and check the brace again, I've tried from 7"-7.5" for the brace but I don't think the yarn balls are in the right place.
All of mine like 7 1/2 to 7 3/4.
I'll give it a try this evening, thanks for the help guys.
All my TT are a whisper at the shot. They all seem to be between 7.5-7.75" I also like to put velcro on the limb grooves.
Do most of you that have TT shoot split or 3 under? Just wondering as it seems to make a difference and i know Logan shoots 3 under.
I have a 62" and 60" TallTines recurve. Both setups are equally quiet with a brace height of 7 1/4" and four small rubber catwhiskers placed equal distances from both limb tips. Without the catwhiskers the bow is noisy with lots of vibration (I like as low as possible brace)however once those whiskers go on the bow becomes one of the quietest I own!
Is this bow considerally heavier than what you've been shooting ???
If you're overbowed at the moment you might be plucking and or loosing back tension thus making for the noisy bow.. No doubt you'll work into it as the TT's are as quiet a recurve as I've used.
I killed both my deer this year with a 57lb palmer recurve and I've shot my best 3d scores with a 60lb black widow so I doubt I'm overbowed. I added pads to the limbs, moved yarn balls to the quarters and knocked the brace up to 7 3/4". I haven't been able to shoot it yet because I'm still at work.
I shoot three under. You just have to tweak it a little and you'll have a deadly bow for years to come.
Stupid ? but are the limb bolts properly tightend.
Check your arrow nock fit with the serving of your string. If it is too tight it can make even the quietest bow sound loud.Just a thought

The limb bolts are snug and not overly tightened, and the nocks fit a little on the loose side. I did get to shoot it after work and it seemed better than it was. I did find a problem, the quiver I was using wasn't holding the arrows snug in the arrow gripper. I could hold my bow and pluck the string and hear the arrows vibrating around. I put a strap on quiver on it and that solved that problem!
My tall tines was the quietest bow I've ever shot. It didn't make a single sound except the arrow hitting the target. I had my brace height at 7 7/8" maybe try and go to 8 and see if it helps. Then check under the limbs and see if there's a problem there. If not call Brian I'm sure he'd be happy to help you.
Longbowlogan,
Has your issue been resolved?
Scott--two posts up!

Thanks Steve.....
Sorry I haven't been on this thread in a while, I was out of town. The bow was still on the loud side when I shot it 3 under. I tried everything to get it quiet while shooting 3 under but couldn't get it quiet, so I changed my nocking point and started shooting it split finger. It's a ton quieter and shoots great but it's going to take a lot of practice to shoot split again!
