I had knee surgery recently and am struggling with my climbers.
Also, I have always had some difficulty climbing vertically (No problems with ladder stands which lean, but, screw in steps and climbing them straight up has been a little challenging with my knees).
Knowing this, can any of you recommend some climbing sticks that might work for me?
Like most everybody else, I would like them to be as light and packable as possible.
Any ideas and suggestions is appreciated.
Thanks kindly, Skychief.
I really can't think of any...sorry. Use ladders while you rehab.
Most any of the climbing sticks are easier to climb than screw in steps. Look for one that sets away from the tree enuf to get the instep of your boot on. Rivers Edge and a few others make a model with two rails and steps in between; heavier but very solid. Rapid Rails may work well for you; lightweight and a solid step. Good Luck in your hunt.
Lone Wolf makes a good product but I you need some agility for those. When you heal up look into them. I have had them for 7 years and love them. Just need to take your time setting them up.
Climbing sticks will be vertical as well and coul cause difficulty. Rapid rails being vertical extend out from the tree more and could be easier to climb.
for light weight and pack-ability I use muddy outdoor sticks. I love'em. Do a search on the net for them and check them out
Rapid Rails!
skychief- I had a knee replacement last year, so I feel your pain, lol. I use a stick ladder or rivers edge quick stick. then have steps on both sides and are quiet to place on tree. I still struggle with swelling from time to time which limits my bend. These have helped alot with my loc on stand and chippawa.
Rapid rails, aluminum. Light enough to pack and spacious while going up and down the tree. My primary set up for the past 3 seasons.
I bought a set of Leverage climbing sticks last year. They weight 2 1/2# each, three will bring me to 15' and they have double steps on each side. They a similar to Muddy climbing sticks. These climbing sticks make it as easy as a ladder stand at 1/4 of the weight. They worked out perfect after I tore a calf muscle last year as I could do one step at a time.
I would recommend the rapid rails also. They are light, go up easy, and the way they come out from the tree make them easier to climb than any of the others.
