Here is the story, I bowhunt our family farm and have for many years. At 47 I have learned to be patient when hunting. In 2011 I bought a martin savannah and love it, I shoot it well. I never dreamed I could ever miss a monster nine point at 27 yards....but did. What a nightmare, I did not tag anything in 2011. I was determined to make 2012 a better year, tons of practice and checking my camera every week. I had the 11 point on video in july but figured I would never see him in season. I set my stand in the same tree I missed from last year and hoped for the best. Friday evening November 2 the wind was almost wrong for the deer travel off the ridge, but have read sometimes this will work. Around 5:45 I grunted and can called a few times, then stood to stretch my back a bit. At 6:oo I see movement at bottom of ridge and grab my bow from the hook.Still 50 yards away I see it is a shooter and my heart is now pounding. Step by step this buck is coming right to me. He gets behind a small tree at 15 yards and stops and looks up at me. I can't shoot him here, I need one more step.... which I got seconds later. I came to full draw, hit anchor, found the crease and released. I knew I hit him well. He turned and ran to the other side of our corn field, about 60 yards, and stopped. I watched him walk in the thick stuff and disappear. After about 45 seconds or so I heard a bunch of crashing... he was down. I waited about 30 minutes, then climbed down. Waiting for my good friend to help me out.I found my carbon shaft broken off about ten inches. It seems my zwickey eskimo had done its job again. 50 pound savannah and eskimos are a deadly combo! We walked to the other side up against a fence laying right there, Blood trail was extreme on other side. He dressed at 207, my largest bodied deer. Thanks to you all and good hunting.
